I have been working at Wunderman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mostly friendly people, good work/life balance on many accounts. Good benefits/insurance etc. as part of Y&R Group.

    Cons

No company culture that is typically a "pro" of agency life -- this is something that is constantly raised with senior management to no avail. Work is often slow with many left twiddling their thumbs. Agency seems to be kept afloat by good name and holding company backing but is barely scraping by, and without these things wouldn't even exist. No real room for progression unless you threaten to leave the agency etc. Overall run by good and smart people but either there is not enough of an appetite for change, or there is an appetite for change but not enough money to do it.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees. Strive for innovation and creativity rather than doing the same work on the same accounts. Remember what gave the agency its great name and work to reinvigorate that.

    Pros

Anyone who isn't part of senior mgmt is awesome. The people really make this office great.

    Cons

HR! The HR dept has most of the power. The CEO has no backbone and if you want to get ahead in this office, just yell and be really mean to EVERYONE. You'll be an SVP in no time.

    Advice to Management

Get a backbone. Stop letting HR lead everything.

I worked at Wunderman (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    The party culture
    The free booze
    The friendly atmosphere
    The work is easy
Basically it's like working in a University Frat/Sorority House. Think "Animal House"

    Cons

    • Management on the Creative side is loose, irreverent, and sporadic. There is a total lack of goal-setting or level planning. Basically the complete diametric opposite of Amazon :)
    • There is an extremely low bar for creative work in this office. The focus is on production work (re-sizing, sms messages, etc), although the Senior Management parades the company as the most creative and talented agency in Seattle.
    • The Account and Finance Team leads the Creative.
    • The Creative and Design Dept is brought in at the last minute, rather than being briefed at the onset of the projects
    • Co-workers are often drunk or high, during work hours. This can be kinda fun, and funny, but can also be a detriment to getting work done during business hours.

    Pros

great location, flexible time, trust in employees

    Cons

experience not valued. new ideas not heard. Microsoft client condescending and aloof. management continued to hire duds for VP level who averaged 1 year stays in role... had 5 different managers in 5 years.

    Advice to Management

hire people who know how to sell. you are in a wonderful location, but aren't hiring talented people.

I have been working at Wunderman full-time

    Pros

    – Wunderman is a global company with a respected name.
    – Friendly people & nice environment with a great space.
    – Work/life balance is good and most people leave by 6pm.
    – Alcohol and party snacks are plentiful during birthdays and holidays!

    Cons

    – Room for advancement limited and salary raises seem non-existent.
    – Upper management seems clueless w/ old-school mentality.
    – Creative driven by clients = boring work
    – Keeping employees that are useless or bring nothing to the table.
    – Once you're working on a specific account, doubtful you'll have opportunity to work on anything else.
    – Office politics and favoritism of certain employees.
    – Overall atmosphere going downhill with loss of clients, current employees leaving and many recent layoffs.

    Advice to Management

    – Communicate with your employees and actually get to know them on some level.
    – Be honest, cut the BS and keep employees informed with what's going on within company & clients.
    – Do a full overview of each employee's role and get rid of the dead weight.
    – Seriously... how many VPs are really necessary?
