    I worked at Wyeth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly colleagues; most people of similar level were nice and helpful. Focus on novel pursuit of interesting science. Unclear what could have been.

    Cons

    Pfizer merger was a huge drain; too many good people were displaced. Too much in fighting and not enough focus on science that could deliver - not enough asking the right questions.

    Pros

    Reasonably good salary
    Good benefits
    Pleasant enough work environment
    Adequate computer & office supplies
    Pleasant campus with pretty nice amenities

    Cons

    Atrocious corporate intrigue at the mid-to-lower levels
    Senior management totally out of touch with the people who actually do the work
    Too many people coasting to retirement

    Advice to Management

    The fat-cat style of management will drive all your good employees away. You have to be informed about a subordinate's skill set before you can judge whether or not they've done a good job.

    Pros

    Good working conditions and its location. I enjoy very much working with my reports and peers. Overall you have to learn to deal with how senior managment works.

    Cons

    Very difficult review process. Way to much opinionated. I do not like to "HOLD THE SALARY LINE" he is making to much money. But, the Director level and above reward themselves with huge raises , PIA and stock. SUCKS!!

    Advice to Management

    Some of you should go play on 422, Most need managment training. Rewards and pay increases outside of the research area need to be investigated.

    Pros

    The benefits and the majority of research staff are very knowledgeable. However, this talent is usually suppressed and seems like it is actually frowned upon. The projects are interesting, but are usually managed to the point where there are collapses in communication resulting in time wasting redundancies.

    Cons

    The middle and upper management is abysmal. Very little communication even between affiliated departments. Management has strong favorites, even when the favorites are complete dead-weight to the work and goals at hand. No competency or idea what goes into certain work or studies that they are involved with. If there is an issue at hand, management literally tries to sweep it under the carpet. Out of sight of mind, regardless of how minor or severe the issue is.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to actually manage and try to re-learn the science that is at your hands.

    Pros

    resources, i.e, technoligies, IT support, latest approaches to increasing efficiency in GLP

    Cons

    management lacks real intents on developing talent. Only posterboards and slideshows is their approach.

    Advice to Management

    come up with real-time assesment programs on developing talent and a careful assesment of the difference between competency on the benchtop and competency in managing others

    Pros

    Great (talented and personable) people; great products. Has potential to be a powerhouse and great place to work, if employees were given more consideration as the most valuable resource (in actual fact, not just on paper!).

    Cons

    Poor leadership in area of human relations; reward system / promotions highly political and subjective, based on who you know / who you are, not what you do. Focus on short-term, without regard to long-term objectives.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees; treat fairly and as individuals. Let go of quotas, and quit favoring only those "golden" employees who can do no wrong in the eyes of certain management (even when it's evident to the bulk of the workforce that they have often failed)

    Pros

    Although less true now, the work-life balance in the past was a definite positive. The summer hours and week off during the period between Christmas and New Years is a big plus. Also, the great majority of the people who work there are pleasant to work with and genuinely want to do a good job.

    Cons

    There is a lack of strong leadership on the Consumer Health side of the company and a heavy focus on short-term results at the expense of long-term growth. The company is also very political and how you are perceived (read: are you making your bosses look good and not rocking the boat) is far more important than your actual performance. A bit of an old-boys network, with a somewhat less than fair promotional strategy.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on long-term growth and investment in the consumer brands - there is a lot of potential in strong brands and this is a valuable hedge against the swings in pharma profitability due to patent expiration and generic competition.

    Pros

    Really not a good time to work here with all the changes going on very uptight atmosphere!

    Cons

    No job security due to the merger and project "impact" basically can be fired at any moment. Management not giving any answers bad economy.

    Advice to Management

    Wake up and smell the Pfizer coffee we are toast! Find some sympathy in your heart and let us know if we are cut so we can feed our families.

    Pros

    Salary is higher than area. Nice new office building. New Cafe and Gym is located on site. There are many vanpools that are subsidized. The company is being acquired by Pfizer in July 2009. The site is under going a transformation of culture and attitudes. The management has formed teams to make needed changes. We make a great product line at the site for childhood vacinnes (Prevenar). There is new competion from Glaxo Smith Kline for a similiar vaccine in Europe. The commute from Raliegh NC is about 45 minutes. There are about 1200 people on site. Good benefits and tuition reimbursement, retirement.

    Project Impact underway. Some downsizing expected. Cost Savings

    Need to seek out employee opinions.

    Pros

    better than average compensation with generally good colleagues. The organization attempts to change with annual feedback programs but continues to fall short of the mark. The loss of Protonix to generics has hurt the bottom line and efficiency measures are taking place which is leading to a more focused organization

    Cons

    poor product portfolio and very little diversity. A poor and ineffective HR group which allows for bad management behaviors to exist.

    Advice to Management

    Get some outside perspectives, tenure at the top is too long.
