Pros
Promotes autonomy. Set your own rates. You decide your hours. Freedom to select from a large range of students. Handles the billing. Provides a background check. Requires tutors to pass tests and/or prove proficiency/experience to advertise for specific subjects and grade levels. Offers package deals to students without reducing tutor's original cut. Requires an account to be set up before phone numbers are exchanged. Lesson plans, goals, and objectives are written for parents after each lesson is provided. Great way to pick up extra $ without having to substitute a full school day, plus you teach what you prepare.
Cons
It's not good for those who don't want a middle man. The original split 60/40 is absurd!! Longevity with a student or with Wyzant should be rewarded by reducing the cut to 90/10, it never gets better than 80/20. Contact with the student made by Wyzant it is not transparent for the tutor. Phone communication is blocked until an account is opened, and written communication is screened. Sometimes, a parent needs to hear a voice to make a connection!!!

Pros
It is a very nice vehicle to reach new students and build a resume for tutoring. I'm a graduate student using this service to make a little extra money to increase my stipend, and it's very easy to pick up a few hours here or there.
Cons
The pay schedule is incredibly predatory. 30-40% of your rate goes to Wyzant, and while this might be apropriate for a first lesson or two, it's terrible for both the tutor and the student. The student feels they're paying you a much larger amount than they are, and thus feel like they've bought more of your time than they really have. While the matching service Wyzant provides is excellent, their policies make it pretty unsatisfying to work for them long-term.

Pros
The job is pretty much what is described, in that you can set your rate, hours, and schedule. I like the convenience and its straightforwardness.
Cons
When you're starting, it does take a bit of reaching out and applying for jobs that students post, but I'll say that after I had around 15 hours of work during my first month, students started inquiring for me.
