    Niche insurance market , great come back after recession

    International insurance and reinsurance carrier. XL Catlin is proud to have been ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Large Commercial Insurers" in J.D. Power 2016 study. Great Benefits and pay.

    Individual business units are somewhat independent and communications between units is a little fragmented.

    Benefits are good.
    Large corporation thus opportunities to advance your career.

    Cons

    Growing pains from large acquisition, but getting back to normal.
    Some areas work in silos; therefore, some processes are not as efficient as they could be.

    Advice to Management

    Management needs to be more involve with the day to day operations. There are inconsistencies between the rank and file and top management when talking about efficiencies and accomplishments.

    The pay is pretty good as are the benefits

    Cons

    Management since the merger with Catlin has been terrible.
    Lack of communication on plans.
    Repeated job redundancies have taken a huge toll on morale.

    I worked at XL Catlin full-time

    Pros

    I worked at Catlin for over 7 years, and found the culture and environment very friendly. The management was, overall, receptive to suggestions and opinions for all levels. The company structure allowed for manager to be effective, and create great teams.

    Cons

    They have since been integrated with XL, after I left, and unsure of culture at this time.

    Pros

    Better than average 401K employee matching.

    Cons

    Ever since the merger 2 years ago, there are promises, promises and promises. But at the end of the day, I am disappointed, disappointed and disappointed. The whole IT department is a mess. The India vendors chosen are laughable. All the good men with good knowledge were gone or being pushed aside. All the so-called cost saving is a number game, and I think we end up wasting more money in the current operating model. The IT senior management only knows to think big, but they have no idea how to get there. They told us to dream big (like we are not passionate about our work) but never provided enough directions or funding or even time to do anything good.

    Advice to Management

    Please look hard on IT leadership and really pick the right guy. Not some outsider who knows nothing about technologies to lead IT, which is supposed to be all about technologies.

    Pros

    With new Leadership team and CI Initiative company is making lot of progress on streamlining the processes. After the merger now two companies are working together and making lot of improvements.

    Cons

    Working with the vendor resources are still challenging.

    Keep doing the good job.
