I have been working at XL Catlin (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no Pros for working with this company, the Pros were there before merger after not so much as I really dislike being mislead and targeted.

    Cons

Merged with Catlin Specialty Insurance and messed them up! Almost all Legacy Catlin employees gone and a plethora of management that is not need as well as 95% male to 5% female ratio. Maybe a bit of exageration but not by much. Intentions are to take adjuster positions off shore India and Poland, How they are going to get licensed is a good questions, other suppositions is to get rid of as many aduster as possible so claims division fails and gies them an excuse to change to TPS.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so sneaky and just get on with your plans.

    Pros

The people are great, salaries are high, benefits are very good. (Note: xl used to have remote worker policy which would have been a significant 'pro', but catlin doesn't have the maturity to manage people they can't see, so this policy may either go away or negatively impact your career).

    Cons

The merger set the company back 5 years or more. Instead of making progress, people are vying for personal wins, ignoring the strength of XL's solutions, and talented people are being overlooked because they came from xl.

    Advice to Management

Stop hearing what you want to hear. Recognize what became broken, admit bad decisions were made, and don't protect your buddies.

I worked at XL Catlin (More than a year)

    Pros

High profile company in insurance industry, opportunity to travel with a global company

    Cons

High turnover in management roles, averaging substantive turnover every 12-24 months, reflective of poor decision-making in hiring practices, resulting in low workplace morale, inconsistent direction and unclear company goals.

    Advice to Management

HIRE FROM WITHIN!! The company's stump speech always includes hiring and maintaining the best talent. However, their actions rarely reflect a recognition or loyalty to their existing talent resources that have made significant contributions in time, loyalty and professional dedication and effort on behalf of XL.

I have been working at XL Catlin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Ok benefit and decent compensation.

    Cons

After the merger with Catlin the culture and value of the company has been destroyed. The Catlin culture of spending money and getting noting done has taken root all over the company. All the good work that was done by XL to take over Catlin has now gone back five to seven years. The company has become a very difficult place to work or get anything done. Very sad to see the outcome. It will takes years to fix this mistake.

    Advice to Management

You should have retained and placed the XL management in the new company. Treating the acquisition as a merger was a big mistake. The processes and foundation which XL had before the merger was much more superior. What Catlin had to offer was just a façade and window dressing to sell itself. You has been taken for a ride. Wake up.

I have been working at XL Catlin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team members, excellent benefits, and the opposite of micromanagement present. I've never felt like I have someone always watching me over my shoulder.

    Cons

Difficult to move over into different departments; difficult to be promoted. This means your salary tends to hover in the same area for an extended period of time.

    Advice to Management

Promote more within the company rather than hiring externally.

I worked at XL Catlin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Was able to be exposed to several areas within my function. Health benefits were good, company outings were a plus, great co-workers.

    Cons

Leadership was not good at all. Not proactive in retaining key talent. Poor support with career advancement. Very bureaucratic. Work/life balance can become increasingly challenging as your tenure increases with the company.

    Advice to Management

You may want to reconsider off-shoring activities in the non-revenue generating departments. This may have worked for other departments but was extremely challenging managing the time difference, language comprehension and having to correct all the tasks that were done poorly.

    Pros

    Cons

It is a bad place to work in Regulatory Data Reporting group. Because the manager is a bully. And also one of her team members is a bully too.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should do what they should do by eliminating bullying in the regulatory reporting group located at Exton.
