I have been working at Xavier University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent, supportive, & flexible environment to start a career as a faculty member. Peers are supportive but not overwhelmingly so. Geographical location is also great!

    Cons

Clinical faculty (and other non-tenure track faculty) are absolutely second class citizens.

    Advice to Management

Work on soothing the relationships between departments/areas in the university. Also, support the non-tenure track folks who do a lot of work for your university.

I worked at Xavier University (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Low cost education for employee and immediate family.
    Family and friends environment.
Opportunities to volunteer to work at school events.
Benefits are good, however budget cuts are forcing changes in benefits offered.

    Cons

Low pay (unless you are utilizing the low cost tuition option).
    Very few opportunities for advancement.
Mid & upper management were moved to management level without adequate training.
Very difficult to move from staff level(hourly) position to administrative(salary)position ( a difference in salary and benefits earned).

    Advice to Management

Many employees complain about the poor and/or aggressive management skills of mid and upper level managers. These complaints are going unheard or being ignored at the cost of losing good long term employees. Think employee retention.
