I worked at XcelHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employees who care about clients and are skilled at their jobs, but are underpaid and not appreciated for what they bring to the table.

    Cons

Ownership couple cares little about employees but they often mention a "family" setting and reward for "loyalty." Most prospective employees are initially convinced to join by a story board that does not fit with reality. In reality, the Indian owners care little about you (everyone is replaceable), nor their clients, who are overcharged and under-serviced. The claim of 22,000 PEO employees is not true - the company has less than 10,000 and is on the decline. Well intentioned professionals come and leave when they find out the real story behind this company - a cash cow for the Indian owners who deceive and overcharge clients and underpay employees so they can line their pockets. This is not a good culture for career progression or success.

    Advice to Management

Operate with integrity. Commit to servicing your clients, charging them fairly, and rewarding your hard working employees.

I worked at XcelHR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working for a PEO exposes an individual to work with employees and business leaders in multi-state industries and government contractors. While the company has 300+ clients and W2's over 20,000+ employees, it still has a mom & pop type of corporate culture.

    Cons

Being able to juggle multiple clients with minimal/lean staffing resources often made it difficult to provide good customer service and responses to clients or employees in a timely manner. Due to dated HRIS systems processes were very manual that could be automated. No training at all provided, or when changes have been made, sink or swim type culture.

    Advice to Management

Modernize the technology systems to remain competitive in the market and maximize in automation to allow employees more self-service capabilities, and minimize response time on inquiries. Very understaffed due to the lack of automation in systems, the management needs to realize that you can only be "lean" if you have processes and systems in place to support the demands of the clients and employees. Management should also practice what they preach (i.e. treat its internal customers/employees as if we were a client) and provide top notch human resources. For example having a performance management process, competitive benefit costs, organizational development and training.

    Pros

Free parking and comfortable work stations

    Cons

No restaurants within walking distance. Schizophrenic management permits some employees to run amok while holding the majority to an unreasonable standard of performance. One former employee embezzled thousands over a period of years and no one knew because its checks and balances don't work. Salaries are among the worst in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Pay a decent wage. Set a consistent standard for employees.

I worked at XcelHR (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CTO, HR manager are great managers. All other managers need courses!

    Cons

Management is terrible! Corporate Officers are horrible and a reason why their employees leave.

    Advice to Management

Change Upper Management who rub their employees the wrong way. Promote employees & give a raise so the good don't leave. RESPECT GOES A LONG WAY!

I have been working at XcelHR full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The employees are great. Very nice. Professional and helpful....but only the employees make it good to work here. They all work very hard.

    Cons

Management is awful. Low ball employees pay and is normal practice, so don't be fooled. Benefits are terrible and you have to pay a ridiculous premium. You wind up paying so much out and still get medical bills...ridiculous. the worst part is the deductible you have to pay is way too high. So you get even less in your pay check, because they don't tell you how awful their benefits are. The person who negotiated the healthcare should be FIRED! Also, the owner of the company is abusive with his language, and screams and yells and you can hear him from the back of the office. Don't bother working here and keep going to a better company that will pay you what you're worth, have way better benefits! The management talks a good game, but don't believe the hype.

    Advice to Management

Pay people what they're worth and stop low balling. Get better benefits for employees than the poor benefits you offer and fire the person who negotiated the health benefits. Again, pay people what they're worth like management gets paid a fat salary and the employees don't even get a good salary, bonuses or pay increase. you need to change that. Value the workforce that make you successful and keeps the owners pockets fat.

I worked at XcelHR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Absolutely none. Employees don't get along with each other. One black manager in entire office who is underpaid and overworked.

    Cons

No minorities in supervisory roles. Terrible morale. Chief of Operations supervises his own sister and intimidates employees. Extremely high turn over rate.

    Advice to Management

Go back to school. Get some morale. Learn to respect employees. Company gave raise in 2014....for the first time in 5 years. Terrible company. Weeded out all the employees 50 years old or older to keep from paying retirement benefits. Owners name is not on anything.

    Pros

Can't think of a single positive thing to say about them

    Cons

Indian owned so employees are treated like cattle which is the culture of that country. Churn 'em and burn 'em. Low pay, long hours and incompetent management. Haven't given the employees a raise for going on 4 years yet the owner is building a mansion in Great Falls. No 401k contribution for 4 years either. Company is not long for survival.

    Advice to Management

Quit and let people with half a brain try to save the company

    Pros

I found this company to be exceptionally strong in customer services, with a loyal sales teams. Good People to work with and a very competent and professional HR department.

    Cons

This is a growing regional company that is still being run like a small mom and pop by the leadership. This style works in the rural markets but not in the highly competitive cities.

    Advice to Management

Delegate responsibilities. You can't do it all.
