    Pros

Xilinx is a leading semiconductor company. It is working on Emerging technologies. Xilinx has a large number of customers in a diverse set of industries. So, it gives an idea of what kinds of products customers are building. So, it is a great place for Marketers.

On the hardware engineering side, Xilinx is working on cutting-edge process technologies for their latest products. On the software engineering side, there are many CAD/EDA tools being developed at Xilinx and there are also many embedded software solutions being developed. So, Xilinx is a great place for Engineers.

    Cons

Not many people outside hardware industry know the company. Though 90% of internet traffic is likely to run through some FPGA chips, most people dont know about Xilinx.

    Advice to Management

    Keep innovating.

    Pros

It was the best internship for me. Company is populated by almost
100% engineers. Projects are very innovative and really interesting.
Given that you have only 4 FPGA companies, it's cool to be in 1st of
    them.

Work is interesting - interdisciplinary; you can learn a lot, if you
want. Complexity is big, but everyone had problem with starting
a job like this at some point, and people get it; they're very busy,
but if you finally get in contact with someone, they're helpful.

Thanks to good team cooperation, it's possible to learn a lot and
do some work, which is useful to someone (e.g.: you aren't forced to
do something, which is known to be a crap from the begining).

I had a chance to have a good manager - clearly stated, what I
did wrong and how to fix it.

Hiring is done on a sensible and attractive conditions. It made sense
to relocate for Xilinx for several months.

Good conditions - chair/desk/cube/computer are comfortable.

    Cons

No perspectives for being hired permanently. Most of the new positions is being located outside of the US/Europe

I feel really bad seeing people with 10-20 years of experience leaving Xilinx.

ALL restrooms should be IMMADIATELY replaced with something that has a decent condition. Top FPGA company can afford something better than a paper, too-short wall in a restroom. REALLY.

    Advice to Management

Start hiring more people (interns, engineers) in US/Europe. Technology at Xilinx is so interesting, that young people from all around the world could be interested in moving, if they had a chance.

    Pros

Xilinx is is a growing profitable market but good strategy and execution is has been going well over the last year or two

    Cons

Xilinx haas undergone a lot of cultural changes and people are still having a difficult time adapting. Also the pay for performance process is horrible and a waste of a lot of work

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the pay for performance and half year review. It is a waste of effort and does not help drive better performance

I have been working at Xilinx full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Xilinx empowers employees, compensation is inline with market, CEO knows what he is doing. The product in the marketplace is gaining acceptance and maintaining dominance over our major competitors.

    Cons

Many employees have a "its not my job" attitude or feel entitled to their job for just showing up. Lack of formal training for new people.

    Advice to Management

Move business systems out of ops and IT and into the hands of the business people who use them.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The senior management overhaul several years back set the wheels in motion for a major re-engineering effort (especially in software). There's extensive engineering talent, the company's silicon/software offerings right now are quite strong and the momentum we're gaining as a result is the real deal!

    Cons

The reinvention has been a wild ride at times but overall a rewarding experience. Expect to work hard here - there is no free ride.

    "Good company"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good people, great products. Employees are empowered. Finally built a gym in SJ and it is a great one! Currently has a clear competitive edge.

    Cons

Many groups are understaffed and people are overworked. The ratio of workers to VP is going down every year. Worrisome trend...

    Advice to Management

Grow the staff accordingly to the company's growth. You are burning out people.
