I have been working at Xilinx full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work. Xilinx always offers classes so that you keep learning. They heavily invest in their employees

    Cons

They have 5 buildings in San Jose. Two out of the five buildings are pretty new and renovated. The other three are your typical 1990's buildings.

    Advice to Management

Management is great. They have a real vision and direction to take the company. It is clear and concise.

I worked at Xilinx full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is a good team environment and the ability to work with the latest tools and technologies. Managers are good and tend to look out for their team. Typically flexible work schedule. Pay is pretty competitive.

    Cons

While not as great as it once was, it is still better than most. The company has become less employee driven and more top-down driven seemingly without regarding feedback from employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to front line on feature sets and schedules. When those workers say something will take 6 months and you only give 3, don't be surprised when it actually takes 6.

    Neutral Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Xilinx full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Cool, leading-edge tech, engineering-centric culture, decent benefits, good & great coworkers, lots of smart folks, international teams.

    Cons

Brain-dead policies of laying off well-rated & qualified people/teams after their projects are finished, specially targeting workers with long seniority and at remote sites. Usually followed by immediate openings for positions these people could have stepped into immediately. No hesitation moving jobs to Singapore and India to (questionably) save on software development costs.

    Advice to Management

How about a simple cost-benefit analysis of laying-off engineers then finding and training new ones (often taking nearly a year to reach full productivity) vs. moving existing engineers to new projects.
