I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This year leadership proved to put people first. When Covid happened, the C-suite refused to let anyone go. And we still had our performance reviews/raises. Lots of flexibility around doing your work especially for working families. Bug plus for remote work. Good challenging projects and exposure to different clients. A great place to fast-track your growth.

    Cons

My leader is often spread thin and we don’t get enough time together, but that’s the nature of working with many clients. I know there are efforts to improve this.

    "Lacking Company Culture"

    1.0
    Former Employee - Project Manager

    I worked at Y Media Labs full-time

    Pros

This place might be a good place for some early exposure and experience but it’s short lived. - Free Snacks and Drinks

    Cons

This company lacks long term vision. Client projects are treated like a factory project, timelines and deliverables are all that matter even when quality and innovation should be of higher focus.

    Pros

You’ll get exposure to lots of industries. Good if you’re straight out of school or have no experience. Used to be full of talented designers, but they’ve all left.

    Cons

Lots of crappy clients and not a good environment for the long term. You will be used and not valued. People are commodities and the turn over rate reflects that. Companies like this are exactly why agencies get a bad rap, because they are run like factories and are all about appearances and shiny things, with little to no value placed on solid product design. Hard to keep employees happy when the culture established from the top is all about business and not about people.

I worked at Y Media Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will get to peek behind the curtain of what a somewhat competent agency is.

    Cons

    - It's an agency at the end of the day. They are run by a parent company that is economically in the red. That means the quality of work and life will always suffer to maximizing profit. - Poor pay and benefits - Long and non paid commute - Long Hours - The agency is becoming an ad shop. - There is no real knowledge of product design. - A bunch of turn over.

    I worked at Y Media Labs full-time

    Pros

    - Coworkers are generally good people - Nice offices - Free parking - Stocked kitchen

    Cons

If a friend of mine was considering working here, I would tell them this: Proceed with Caution. YML can be a good option if you're looking for somewhere to work for a year max, get some decent client names under your belt, and then move on. I would NOT consider this a great place if you're hoping to truly learn and grow. Several people have been fired simply because the company doesn't understand how to utilize their extensive knowledge. There's EXTREME favoritism. It is very obvious who is "liked" by leadership and who isn't. People have been expected to work nights and weekends instead of properly setting client expectations for a reasonable turn-around time. And worst of all, the company exists in its own delusion of grandeur. Those who turn a blind eye, walk the "YML is the best place on earth" walk, and do as their told are rewarded. Those who challenge, disagree, or see room for improvement are punished in one way or another. Whenever a pitch isn't won, they find a way to blame the client's budget. Its never, "We didn't do something right" because the almighty YML is never wrong. You can see evidence of this in all their rebuttals to the negative reviews. It's the employees fault for not "discussing with your manager." Many people have been leaving week after week for months and there's a reason for that...

I worked at Y Media Labs full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Talented designers who put in the effort - Free lunches on Mondays - Very relaxed vibe with easy to talk to peers

    Cons

    - Does not understand the strategy in their work, but rather trying to sell the next project - No real clear path to growth - A lot politics including leadership being very opinionated that their answer is the only answer - Focused on just creating mobile apps, and not seeing the big picture from a strategy perspective - Leadership thinks that overtime is expected and accuses people of sacrificing their work/life balance
