I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Really good changes have been happening at YML in the last 2 years- more senior leadership, more employee centric activities and programs, more listening from the leadership team, a lot more transparency from the leaders, more care for the employees overall. I feel very appreciated, seen, and heard at YML now. In fact, I heard our HR say the other day that we do not hire or promote managers, we hire leaders and regardless of your title or level, everyone has the capacity to lead. I’m in favor of this approach. Great flexibility, no micro-management, lunch each Monday and breakfast each Friday, paid sick and family leaves, Flexible PTO, exposure to multiple industries and brands resulting in interesting work.

    Cons

I hope we can invest more in growth of top talent.

    I worked at Y Media Labs full-time

    Pros

    - Coworkers are generally good people - Nice offices - Free parking - Stocked kitchen

    Cons

If a friend of mine was considering working here, I would tell them this: Proceed with Caution. YML can be a good option if you're looking for somewhere to work for a year max, get some decent client names under your belt, and then move on. I would NOT consider this a great place if you're hoping to truly learn and grow. Several people have been fired simply because the company doesn't understand how to utilize their extensive knowledge. There's EXTREME favoritism. It is very obvious who is "liked" by leadership and who isn't. People have been expected to work nights and weekends instead of properly setting client expectations for a reasonable turn-around time. And worst of all, the company exists in its own delusion of grandeur. Those who turn a blind eye, walk the "YML is the best place on earth" walk, and do as their told are rewarded. Those who challenge, disagree, or see room for improvement are punished in one way or another. Whenever a pitch isn't won, they find a way to blame the client's budget. Its never, "We didn't do something right" because the almighty YML is never wrong. You can see evidence of this in all their rebuttals to the negative reviews. It's the employees fault for not "discussing with your manager." Many people have been leaving week after week for months and there's a reason for that...

I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Leadership- they are passionate visionaries who don't mind rolling up their sleeves and helping solve problems every day. Thanks to them, org is very flat, egos don't thrive here, and titles generally don't carry weight-impact does. People really care here. For instance, our CTO recently made sure that our janitor feels recognized for his hard work. It blew me away as it exemplified compassion at a level higher than I have ever seen at a Tech company before. Recognition and humility are at forefront of success at YML. Talent- YML is packed with excellent talent. People work hard and are passionate about what they do because they know that their work matters. Culture- great humans work here. It feels good to come to work each day because I am sorrounded by good people who do good work and whom don't forget to laugh. It's so important. Office- our new office is absolutely beautiful with amazing views. It's yet another great example of YML's commitment to its team. Monday lunch- saves so much time & energy on hectic Monday mornings. Jar of Awesomeness- anyone can drop a note into the "Jar of Awesomeness" and once a month, our Admin sends out an email with notes, quotes, shout outs, etc that people dropped in it. It's always something great! Our new coffee machine- It's seriously amazing! Our Hawaii house- our leaders woke up one day and decided to Airbnb a beautiful mansion in Maui for employees to enjoy with their families. People come back tanner and happier, and they work harder. Weird how that works. ;-)

    Cons

We don't show the world enough how awesome YML really is. Lots of companies & peers would be happy to learn from us- we need to share more.

I worked at Y Media Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The time I spent at YML forged me into the contributor that I am today. I owe a lot to the management team and my wonderfully collaborative former colleagues. The people at this company are generous with their time and knowledge; and that's what really makes a company great to work at in my humble opinion. If you're going to join this company be prepared to participate with the same gusto. Furthermore, the management team is really open to what you have to share to help improve the company and you get to work with amazing clientele/companies.

    Cons

The management team is kind of strict about their work from home policy, however, given the kind of culture and number of people in the CA office it's difficult to argue against the reason why the company would want their employees in the office. Additionally, the nature of the business and client timelines mean that at times developers will have to grind hard. If you have poor work ethic this place isn't for you.

I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

YML is an ambitious company that treats its employees with respect. I'm consistently surprised by the talent surrounding me. Everyone is treated like experts and trusted to perform the tasks required without heavy-handed oversight. Conversely, at the same time there is a culture of collaboration and sharing of knowledge which I adore. At the time of writing this review, I have been employed by YML for a little over a year. During that time I've been encouraged to improve as a QA, and I've been granted the freedom to do so. Unlimited Vacation: As long as you plan in advance, there is no hard limit on vacation time. YML believes in "work hard, play hard". They understand that happy people are more productive.

    Cons

With corporate HQ in California, there are sometimes time zone issues for events, but they're handled as well as could ever be expected. The Indianapolis office is small, but it's growing.

I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Back in 2013, I was still a freelance designer trying to get any gig I could, when an opportunity at YML came across my table (my friends table actually because I was living on a buddy's couch at the time). After I got the job, I quickly had the "we love the work you're doing" conversation with the CTO and my position escalated from Mid-Level Designer to Senior Designer and now, after 3+ years, am owning full projects from the ground up as a Lead. With such an amazing team, Y Media Labs puts faith in all their hires, giving them every shot to succeed and grow as a designer, both in skill and $. Although my friends couch was a godsend at the time, I feel thoroughly blessed to have my own doorknob in San Francisco.

    Cons

The fridge is always stocked with goodies, but everybody must like the grapefruit la croix the most because every time I go to get one, only lime and lemon are left =(

I have been working at Y Media Labs full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great work environment with an open door policy. Monthly outings and a loaded kitchen with free lunch on Monday. It was a great experience to work in the mobile tech industry. The sales management team did a great job training and giving honest feedback.

    Cons

Has nothing to do with the company but I live in the East Bay and thought I could endure the traffic. I was wrong but besides that employment at YML was what most would expect from a young tech company.

I worked at Y Media Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

YML is a fast-growing startup specializing in designing and building mobile applications. The key strength of YML is having a talented in-house design and engineering team that works with customers to create great user experiences. They have worked with big brands like PayPal and StubHub, and helped build start-ups. I joined YML as a Software Engineer after completing a masters degree in computer science. I was able to contribute immediately to high profile customer projects. The work was challenging and deadlines often tight - I enjoyed learning fast and on the fly. I was supported by experienced engineering management and technically strong engineers. The rewards for me were in being part of a small team that made apps used by thousands of people. While I was working at YML, the company moved into a bigger and better office space in Redwood City with lake views, and opened an office in New York. They also have offices in Bangalore, and Indianapolis. Benefits included healthcare, vacation, holidays, and free lunch on Mondays. There were also plenty of team gatherings inside and outside of work to celebrate company milestones and staff birthdays.

    Cons

YML is a startup, so not everything is perfect. If I could pick 3 Agile ideas that would have made a difference to me as an engineer, they would be better team communication, shorter daily meetings, and short sprints. You could make a difference here by bringing experience with Agile, being a team player, and challenging design and code quality to make apps even better.

I have been working at Y Media Labs

    Pros

THE Best Company to work for in the Silicon Valley! Great work-life balance, intelligent and friendly team, stunning new office space, fast paced environment, cutting edge technologies and equipment, high standards when it comes to our work and finished product; Just an all around winner!! I have been here for almost 2 years and could not be more proud to be part of the YML team. Also, User Experience is put first in our process, which I strongly commend. Every feature, every transition, every app is beyond polished and created with the user in the mind. Overall this is a fine establishment and I highly recommend to all prospective employees...engineers, designers, sales....everyone!

    Cons

Fast paced nature can be a challenge for some, but everyone here is here to help and give you the tools to succeed.

I worked at Y Media Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great place to start your career - YML works on latest technologies and great brands, so exposure is better

    Cons

    - Managers damage everything. Sometimes one project used to have two or three managers in the form of product owner, manager, Manager US so on - Few seniors are not effective in communication which ruined client relationship as well as health of the team - No hike for freshers after completion of one year - No perks
