I have been working at YMCA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The children are the best part of the job.

    Cons

The upper management is not good at Greenbrier North YMCA, they make promises they cannot keep and do not act in a professional manner.

Take your employees side more often.

    I worked at YMCA part-time

    Pros

Working there felt like I was apart of another family. It was always a great environment.

    Cons

Pay wasn't the best and due to budget cuts they stopped giving us our yearly .25 raises.

I have been working at YMCA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours and good community

    Cons

Management is unorganized, often short staffed

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees, get rid of incompetent coordinators, give incentive for lifeguards and other employees to stay (raises possibly?), make it easier to become full time (you guys need more hours worked but won't let employees work them), promote good employees

I worked at YMCA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work with kids in structured environment
Easily work 40 hours (depending on camp location)
Great summer job for college students
Depending on your camp, you'll have the chance to easily step into a leadership role

    Cons

I worked there for three summers, and wasn't until the third that I realized how unsupportive our camp's immediate supervisor was, often siding with parents before reviewing situations with us
If you worked over 40 hours, supervisors didn't want you to write it down/pay for it
Communication to staff from HQ (who weren't directors or unit leaders) was spotty at best

    Advice to Management

Allow staff of all levels to complete progress reports of how they think camp/position is progressing—I never felt like I had a voice, but I could see some flaws and would have loved to provide solutions. I enjoyed my time, but there was definitely room for improvement.
