I worked at YPM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work at if you're straight out of college and don't know any better about how a modern company in the 21st century is supposed to operate.

Advice? If you want to really work in digital media, this is not the place.

    Cons

Professionals beware. This company supposedly prides itself on “having never laid off employees due to the economic recession.” However, they have zero problem with utilizing California’s “at will” employment policy and terminating an employee with no real reason except to say “they’re going in a different direction.”

No flex time. No opportunities to occasionally work from home (if you are ill) even though a lot of work is done online.

    Terrible, terrible management.

    Advice to Management

Management (both the execs and immediate supervisors) needs improve communication with employees. If employee performance needs improvement, let them know and give them the opportunity to improve. Don’t just let employees go without reason or cause.

Unnecessary structure. Archaic dress codes, especially for employees who are not client-facing.

Also, when you’ve got management constantly complaining about and making fun of the VPs and the CEO, it’s not a great work environment. There was absolutely no feeling of teamwork in my department. Supervisors constantly complained about upper management as well as clients. Choose different leaders, not people who aren't enthusiastic about the work they are doing.

    Pros

If you enjoy data-entry, micro-management and have no marketing/advertising experience, then this would be a fit.

    Cons

Don't let the Media Manager title be misleading. The role consists primarily of data-entry and clerical work for the yellow pages, and you are micro-managed through it all. The training program is not effective and management has no trust for the people they lead. Be prepared to have all of your work and email communication checked by your manager prior to completing anything on your own, or for things they really don't trust you on, management will have to do it for you. The company's policy's are very old-fashion and inflexible - don't plan on having access to the outside world during the hours of 8AM - 5 PM (cell phones are not allowed). And although the Media Manager role is an exempt position, your time is managed as if you were a non-exempt employee. Would not recommend this role unless you are truly looking for an entry-level position.

    Advice to Management

This is an entry-level role, hire people who are truly entry-level. Trust the people who work for you. Review your company policies....we are in the year 2011.

I have been working at YPM full-time

    Pros

Non-managerial co-workers are all really nice

    Cons

Micro management, extremely alarming high turnover, terrible company culture, a very uptight and quiet work environment, a lot of late nights and weekends. It's like working for the devil himself. Don't even apply.

    Advice to Management

Relax and trust your employees. I would be concerned by the level of turnover. It reflects poorly on your company.

I have been working at YPM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good for entry level career only

    Cons

This company follows unethical business practices. It's a family owned private business so they get away with everything. It is impossible to reach the top. They are discriminating towards the appearance of their staff. The majority of employees hired are inexperienced and uneducated. Only a selective few are actually competent.. The owners like to follow a "cost effective" strategy when it comes to their employees, so don't expect to be compensated highly. The pockets of the owners always stay full. The industry is going downhill and will likely disappear. The staff is like a revolving door and turnover is high.

    Advice to Management

    Share the wealth.
