Long hours at times. That's all I can think of

    Advice to Management

    Need improvement in employee moral

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overtime after 8 hours, pay isn't bad, free medical insurance after union dues are paid, if you want to earn and work long hours your income will show.

    Cons

Coworkers who 15% was took, no moral, top pay is what other LTL's started you with, vacation after a year but you work 14 hours 5 days a week, no pensions thats worth anything, inconsistent management involving senior employees and recent hires.

    Advice to Management

Treated everyone the same, stop letting people who been with yellow or roadway get away with doing less for more money and new hires do more for less. Crack down on clock milkers.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is progressing rapidly in the rate direction and has a full portfolio of services to offer. Sales support is strong and upper management has a good grasp on wear the company needs to be.

    Cons

The amount of calls per day is counter productive. Rather than hit your hot opportunities and focus on strategy you are forced to focus on a call cycle, which I consider outdated. This needs be done away with and an opportunity driven call cycle would be more beneficial with less focus on number of calls.

    Advice to Management

LIke I said, need to reduce number of calls a day to 4-5, make them strategic calls focusing on your opportunities vs. a call number.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits. Job security. The pay is in the top 10% of industry, but not the highest.

    Cons

You have to fight for your self. The Union doesn't help as much as expected. Honor based system in pay.

    Advice to Management

Have a more active and involved relationship with the workers. You can't possibly be ahead in the industry, when your knowledge center is inadequately supplied from distinguished avenues (the workers who have an intimate first-hand knowledge of the front line) and bases decisions predominantly off of the macro picture.

    Pros

Paid weekly, Low cost high quality healthcare, sick days, vacation days, b-day, anniversary days off, laid back work environment for the most part, newer equipment showing up, overtime during busy months.

    Cons

15% pay cut has brought down the hourly wage quite a bit below other LTL companies.

    Advice to Management

15% has helped keep things moving and business has increased considerably since 2013. Time to give back the wages that you have been taking. Certainly the company can afford since multi-million dollar bonuses have been handed over to executives.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Although it varies by manager and team, YRC generally has a good work/life balance and the day to day workload and stress level is reasonable. The Overland Park location has a really nice lunch area with a full cafeteria. They also have an onsite fitness center for employees who want to use it.

    Cons

In the last 10 years YRC has only given out raises/merit increases twice, and then it was only a 2% across the board increase, no matter how good of a job or how highly you've been rated by your manager. Despite this, the company has been spending obscene amounts of money on projects of questionable value such as building a replica of a truck dock complete with heavy machinery. Given that they are building this replica right next to the company's mission critical data center, the vibrations from the heavy machinery pose a risk to the data center which could put the company's future in jeopardy.

    Advice to Management

If you can't afford to give out raises to employees, at least offer perks like a casual dress code, the ability to work from home one or more days a week, and flex time. You used to offer these at one time, but you have since taken them away. Also, you might want to reconsider you replica truck dock. If you want to show off a truck dock to potential customers, there's a real one just a few miles down the road.

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to learn in your role.

    Cons

Minimal pay raises. 401k match is only 2%

    Advice to Management

Increase 401K match and increase raises to 3-5%

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Zero cost benefits, plenty of people happy to help new hires, variety of driving positions, new equipment trickling in, job security ( not able to fire people unjustifiably). Not a private vs.drill sergeant place like one big competitor I worked for.

    Cons

Home/Work life balance is definitely work priority. If you don't like the established way, best to get over it. Transfer to new city( if it is advantageous) can happen if terminals become unprofitable.

    Advice to Management

Follow up on RECRUITER promises ! People should not have their home time abused as is happening regularly for road drivers.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

very challenging, tought environment makes time go quick. decent pay, benefits and job security

    Cons

No life work balance at all. Expect a lot of work and little free time. No recognition for hard work, hard to move up in industry

    Advice to Management

starts from the top, too many too list. No lean six sigma being applied in the industry. Accounts getting more than 40% of discounts given to accounts!! too much small issues that can be fixed
