I have been working at YRC Freight part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the relationships established amongst other co-workers. Good Pay, when scheduled. Somewhat casual work environment.

    Cons

Some of the work processes are inconsistent. Management has a tendency to let certain subordinates dictate things like who works and how often, when it comes to part-time workers.

    Advice to Management

Make the work processes uniform. Properly train part-time workers, so they may be more versatile and productive. Be more cognizant of part-time hours distribution, so that everybody gets a chance to work consistently, more than sporadically.

    Advice to Management

Safety is only enforced when it is convenient.

    Pros

Some managers are wonderful, encourage you, and bring out the best in everyone.

    Cons

MANAGEMENT bullies, who cost the company thousands by missing work, and lack of direction.

    Advice to Management

Don't let certain managers miss work all the time, while others work more than they should. Managers should not be bullies.

    Pros

    Good information systems and history.

    Cons

Too much influence by former Yellow Freight management group

    Advice to Management

Be more open minded to the input from the existing employees that have a lot of good input to offer to assist a struggling company.

    Pros

Home every night, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, excellent insurance through the Teamsters Union.

    Cons

Poorly managed. No retirement. Bleak future due to better managed corporations.
Poor relationship between upper level management and employees.

    Advice to Management

Dump your flamboyant CEO. Nearly 11 million a year and he thinks hourly employees are paid too much.

I worked at YRC Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

it's like boot camp, if you can make it through the first year you can take those skills somewhere else where you will enjoy the work and company.

    Cons

being I non-union employee I found it hard to reason with many union workers and their own representatives (who talked to them like they were kids). I liked the fact that you had to hustle, but you barely had a chance to sit down and take a 10 minute lunch break.

    Advice to Management

there's not much I can offer, maybe try to lead the way and truly bring non-union and union workers together without being condescending, but also don't sacrifice your goals as long as they are reasonably trying to achieve goals that benefit the company's success.
