I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Most folks at YRC are honest, hard working, and try their best.
    - HQ office operations group seems to be well-tenured and knowledgeable.
    - "Employees Club" puts together lunches, happy hours, and a nice Christmas Party at the end of the year. Makes work a little more sociable than normal, which is nice.
    - The average workday is mostly low in stress with friendly and flexible middle management.
    - Nice cafeteria and a small gym on site, and a few nice outdoor areas for walking.
    - Pay doesn't seem high by any means, but average and adequate come to mind to describe it; which isn't that bad.

    Cons

    - The financially motivated job cutting and layoffs. It's one thing to have a policy of laying off continuously poor performers and replacing them. But, when a company unexpectedly lays off people with no replacement after a bad quarter or two in terms of revenue, it makes you feel like things are unstable, which seems to scare away young, talented individuals, who then just use their job as a short-term stepping stone.
    - People who have been with the company for many years tend to have a negative view of the current company (lots of "how it used to be good..." stories), which is also somewhat discouraging to new comers.
    - Company leadership seems to be reactive toward competitors rather than coming up with "our gameplan" and sticking with it.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and lead more from the top down. Be honest with employees, admit to problems, and come up with plans to fix them. Encourage middle management to take ownership in their areas, so that direction will be given from the top down. Right now, it seems like we are just a wandering company, trying to replicate what competitors are doing, rather than coming up with our own plan and identity. Keep slowly bringing back benefits programs. And, work to balance budget in a more stable way to promote growth rather than cutting. Employees seem tired of the excuses; fuel cost is too low or freight is too competitive of an industry. Just come up with a growth plan and stick with it already! Stop wandering!

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overtime after 8 hours, pay isn't bad, free medical insurance after union dues are paid, if you want to earn and work long hours your income will show.

    Cons

Coworkers who 15% was took, no moral, top pay is what other LTL's started you with, vacation after a year but you work 14 hours 5 days a week, no pensions thats worth anything, inconsistent management involving senior employees and recent hires.

    Advice to Management

Treated everyone the same, stop letting people who been with yellow or roadway get away with doing less for more money and new hires do more for less. Crack down on clock milkers.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is progressing rapidly in the rate direction and has a full portfolio of services to offer. Sales support is strong and upper management has a good grasp on wear the company needs to be.

    Cons

The amount of calls per day is counter productive. Rather than hit your hot opportunities and focus on strategy you are forced to focus on a call cycle, which I consider outdated. This needs be done away with and an opportunity driven call cycle would be more beneficial with less focus on number of calls.

    Advice to Management

LIke I said, need to reduce number of calls a day to 4-5, make them strategic calls focusing on your opportunities vs. a call number.

I worked at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, very good upper management and very good hours to work. Their intent is good. I would definitely work there again.

    Cons

Company was in a bit of turmoil. They had cut the pay of some employees (both union and middle management) and most employees were very upset.

    Advice to Management

I believe upper management was doing the right thing. Yellow Freight needs to be competitive and perhaps they were over paying employees - hence the pay cut.
