I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is progressing rapidly in the rate direction and has a full portfolio of services to offer. Sales support is strong and upper management has a good grasp on wear the company needs to be.

    Cons

The amount of calls per day is counter productive. Rather than hit your hot opportunities and focus on strategy you are forced to focus on a call cycle, which I consider outdated. This needs be done away with and an opportunity driven call cycle would be more beneficial with less focus on number of calls.

    Advice to Management

LIke I said, need to reduce number of calls a day to 4-5, make them strategic calls focusing on your opportunities vs. a call number.

I worked at YRC Freight full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, very good upper management and very good hours to work. Their intent is good. I would definitely work there again.

    Cons

Company was in a bit of turmoil. They had cut the pay of some employees (both union and middle management) and most employees were very upset.

    Advice to Management

I believe upper management was doing the right thing. Yellow Freight needs to be competitive and perhaps they were over paying employees - hence the pay cut.

I worked at YRC Freight full-time

    Pros

Miles were good, excellent benefits, for the most part, home every other day or so. Decent starting pay and raises annually.

    Cons

    Extra board meant unpredicatable schedule,

I worked at YRC Freight as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

This position came very easy to me, not too much to it. I am a quick learner/worker so I finished quickly. Pays every week! I was a temp so I didn't get the full company salary. Beautiful campus, cafeteria, perks for full time employees of the company, most of my team were nice. Transferable throughout the company. There were company team buiding events.

    Cons

I didn't like the favoritism sometimes, or the way I was tracked on time when others weren't. I did everyone's work independently, took on new projects and felt like I was persecuted for things out of my control. While others were given leeway to do whatever. Left on my accord, even after offer of full time perm.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to all employees, temps included.

I have been working at YRC Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits. Job security. The pay is in the top 10% of industry, but not the highest.

    Cons

You have to fight for your self. The Union doesn't help as much as expected. Honor based system in pay.

    Advice to Management

Have a more active and involved relationship with the workers. You can't possibly be ahead in the industry, when your knowledge center is inadequately supplied from distinguished avenues (the workers who have an intimate first-hand knowledge of the front line) and bases decisions predominantly off of the macro picture.

    Pros

Paid weekly, Low cost high quality healthcare, sick days, vacation days, b-day, anniversary days off, laid back work environment for the most part, newer equipment showing up, overtime during busy months.

    Cons

15% pay cut has brought down the hourly wage quite a bit below other LTL companies.

    Advice to Management

15% has helped keep things moving and business has increased considerably since 2013. Time to give back the wages that you have been taking. Certainly the company can afford since multi-million dollar bonuses have been handed over to executives.

Pay is good. Supervisors are easy to get along with if you just do your job.

    Cons

Can be challenging working in union atmosphere. Nights and weekend shifts for many years due to seniority system.
