    Pros

Great people to work with at the YWCA of Brooklyn. Intelligent, caring and understanding.

    Cons

CEO is a nightmare and completely abusive to her staff. The ones she has "behind" are minions. She promotes some of her staff without proper training and then talks behind their backs once they mess up. She is not a leader, its swears she's for women but its really hard to tell based on how much she puts them down.

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the clientelle.

    Cons

Upper management was uncommitted and out of touch. There was no leadership from the YWCA as a whole.

Lovely mission, politics made things complicated

    Pros

YWCA attracts passionate, dedicated people who work tirelessly to bring forth equality for women and eradication of racism.

    Cons

There were internal non-profit style politics which gummed up a lot of really great initiatives.

For a 150+ year old organization, very disappointing to work here.

    Pros

The retirement plan created by YWCA National is amazing! It's the best perk ever!

    Cons

No room for growth. Pay is not equitable and job descriptions are not accurate to actual duties performed. Work culture is very poor; employees encouraged to, "play in your own sand box." Very little room for work/ life balance. You're pretty much on your own in regards to professional development. High rate of turnover/ revolving door. It looks good on paper to get your feet wet here, but everyone leaves for better opportunities within 3 years... get that 1 year of retirement pension while you can!

    Great Experience

    Pros

The YWCA provided the opportunity to advance my skills in crisis and short-term counseling.

    Cons

The utilization requirements for the full-time staff seemed excessive. However, all social services seem to require as much.

    Pros

YWCA is deeply invested in empowering women and eliminating racism in their immediate communities and beyond. An organization that is rich in its history and staying relevant in igniting social change today. Great retirement benefits with huge organizational contribution, about 7%. You will not find this in the corporate world unless you work for Google and the likes. Decent career advancement. Family like work environment with many people willing to give a helping hand. Experienced leadership and sustainable goal setting.

    Cons

At times not radical enough depending on demographics of the region served.

    Pros

There is awesome work done in the community with the youth and the seniors. The clients are really nice people.

    Cons

The YWCA has a message that states ' eliminating racism and empowering woman.' This is a false statement, and far from the truth. Management is unprofessional!
