I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Easily the best culture and benefits of any employer I've ever had. They captured magic in a bottle.

    Cons

A real lack of direction for what was a once-great brand with so much potential. It was frustrating to see top-down decisions that greatly affected people on the front line -- just a clear lack of understanding of what was really going on.

    Advice to Management

Get in the weeds and see what your people are really dealing with. Figure out the core competencies and build around those.

I have been working at Yahoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent on boarding program so you’re set up to succeed. Managers encouraged a collaborative environment between teams and you’re surrounded with really smart people who are professional.

    Cons

Lay offs are expected every year and priorities change. Really difficult to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Stop telling your employees to work on their “brand”.

    Pros

Great people who work hard and want you to succeed.

    Cons

Not enough fast innovation, too much holding on to past glories.

    Advice to Management

    Lay off the politics.

I worked at Yahoo for more than a year

    Pros

Free food! Competitive pay, easy access to public transit

    Cons

Customers yelling at you, company purposely keeps you as a contractor to avoid paying for benefits, culture of fake enthusiasm for their bad products, they string you along with contract extensions, no job security.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the bucket system that forces managers to fire the bottom scoring employee even if they all are doing well. STOP hiring/firing temps to do your dirty work and treat people like human beings.

I worked at Yahoo for more than a year

    Pros

Great work environment, constant coaching and training programs, they provide the latest technology equipment from phones to computers or whatever you need to do your job. They offer a cafeteria filled with snacks, drinks, salads a coffee machine and they bring catering for lunch everyday, free.

    Cons

Work can get hectic and sometimes it was necessary to work 12 hour shifts and even take your work home, but other than that it was all good.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free food at the office. Great benefits. A lot of fun parties, free clothes and gifts and fun co-workers. If you get to travel, it's quite lavish. Stay in top hotels, expense your meals, the works.

    Cons

At this point, I do not know why anyone would jump on this sinking ship. This company is failing because they honestly have no idea what their strategy is. Hopefully Verizon can strip them for parts and put them out of their misery or at least lead them in a better direction, because Marissa Mayer and her "e-staff" have epically failed. The HR and payroll staffs are the worst I have ever come across. I received...

    Pros

Company treats the employees very well. Good benefits, salary, etc. Well established training program for new hires. Collaborative environment between teams.

    Cons

Too many middle management members. Company morale is low. Too much on our plates with products, offerings, etc. Hard to stay focused and keep up with the changes.

    Pros

Great schedule, amazing teammates who are very smart

    Cons

Director level leadership is horrible, no upward mobility, a lot of false promises about the future

I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, great coworkers, management is fairly good (always the rough ones)

    Cons

Not great industry decisions made by upper management which makes everyone else suffer, pre-maturely releasing products and features. Not confident in Company's future.

    Advice to Management

Make sure products and features are fully ironed out before forcing clients and advertisers to use them.
