I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. Flexible work time. Great work culture.

    Cons

Management has no clue what they want to do and this brings down the morale of the employees. Constant layoffs do not help either.

    Advice to Management

Focus on growth and your pet projects.

    Pros

    Great people, some nice perks.

    Cons

Company is in transition. Very difficult to get work done as large, sweeping changes are coming from the top. Often these changes negatively impact the local efforts of various teams. Currently the organnization is laying people off and attrition is very high.

    Advice to Management

Need to find a path and stick to it. We've been marching in circles here for years. Management needs to understand impact of high-level decisions - sometimes they're making it more difficult to work smart and make an impact.

    Pros

Hands down the calibre of people. Everyone is smart, focused, hardworking and a team player.

    Cons

Constant bad press and too much focus on activist investors

    Advice to Management

More focus on operations and execution

I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

When working for the right people within the company the experience is great. Produce and stay employed. The free food is nice on the Sunnyvale campus. Plus the work that Yahoo does is very under appreciated.

    Cons

Office politics, the QPR system, and the sudden but not transparent cap on position salary. Wall Street undervalues the company and as a result we continue to play the shareholder games.

I have been working at Yahoo full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Health insurance & benefits; free food; free iPhones; nice new laptops; nice offices; excellent benefits for LGBTQ employees; maternity leave & adoption leave policies; relatively transparent top execs; flexible scheduling; lots of vacation hours that roll over at end of year.

    Cons

bureaucratic hurdles from size & sprawl of different divisions; challenging performance review process; quickly shifting priorities; way way waaaaayyyyy too many directors, Sr. directors, and VPs clogging up the upper middle of the org structure and making operations difficult.
In those below executive level, there is Widespread lack of trust in the top execs, with the exception of CEO.

    Advice to Management

Try being like "undercover boss" for a couple days and find out how your divisions are being run at the lower levels! Many of your goals are mistranslated as they filter down to middle managers - leads to a lot of confusion and wasted work time.

I worked at Yahoo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and the environment were great. Very relaxed, though sometimes the goals were way out of reach.

    Cons

At the time, there was a lot of insecurity. With layoffs being so consistent, nobody ever felt safe.

    Advice to Management

Watch for brown-nosers in middle management. There are some who know nothing other than how to shmooze.

    Pros

Used to be a fantastic company

    Cons

Current leadership lacks coherence and direction, reorgs twice in one year, the sales organization is in a shambles

    Advice to Management

When you have multiple staff with 8 year tenures voluntarily leave you have a problem. Marissa is fantastic but I'm pretty sure middle management obfuscates and tells her what she wants to hear without solving the true problems.
