I worked at Yahoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Easily the best culture and benefits of any employer I've ever had. They captured magic in a bottle.

    Cons

A real lack of direction for what was a once-great brand with so much potential. It was frustrating to see top-down decisions that greatly affected people on the front line -- just a clear lack of understanding of what was really going on.

    Advice to Management

Get in the weeds and see what your people are really dealing with. Figure out the core competencies and build around those.

I have been working at Yahoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent on boarding program so you’re set up to succeed. Managers encouraged a collaborative environment between teams and you’re surrounded with really smart people who are professional.

    Cons

Lay offs are expected every year and priorities change. Really difficult to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Stop telling your employees to work on their “brand”.

I worked at Yahoo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

An organization with a great mix of young driven-energy and wise-experienced know-how. A few senior leaders in product marketing had a great tenacity for business growth, balancing legacy challenges while taking steps to innovate and leverage technology to improve customer response.

    Cons

Merging Yahoo and AOL brands proved challenging as the attention turned-up politics and competition in an unhealthy way. Dated tech stack didn't allow for nimble and timely innovation.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize the product road map that will enable retained happy customers, increasing active and lifetime use.
