Pros

Yahoo treats it's employees with an enormous amount of respect and goes out of its way to try to do what's right for its employees. The positive values and culture within the company are a reflection of the values of it's co-founders.

Cons

The worst part about working at Yahoo! is it's poor senior management, lack of vision, and the power struggles that happen between internal groups due to the silos within the company. These elements take a significant toll on employees and contributes to the low morale and frustration within the company.

Pros

You get the opportunity to work with very smart and talented people at a large company with room to grow. As with any large company, a lot depends on the team you are on. I was fortunate to be on a great team that was managed like a startup within the larger company.

Cons

I was at Yahoo! for 5 years. At the start things were great but the culture took a dive in the last year. This was in large part due to the fact that management encouraged internal competition causing employees to withhold ideas and information in fear others would steal the idea to reap credit. In addition, we had to deal with large egos at the top, often resulting in poor product decision. Yahoo became a top-down organization that in many ways stifled innovation and creative products.

Very bad, unprofessional management that only play politics to survive; Quarterly performance review (QPR) system gives unlimited power to management to do whatever they want with engineers; Unrealistic QPR goals that impossible to achieve gives management full freedom to put any QPR score based on manager personal decision; Up to 5% hidden layoffs by performance due to QPR score every quarter without severance package; Lots of great engineers have been fired by “performance” just because of managers wanted to get rid of inconvenient people; Due to bell curve inside team (low 5% should go every quarter) there is no team work at all. Nobody shares any knowledge and help; No work/life balance; Culture is good for new college grads and interns but very bad for senior engineers with knowledge and experience; So if you are senior engineer please stay away from this company. You will not be appreciated and rewarded;

The original AOL culture was what I loved about the company and the people that are still there are awesome.

The constant buyouts and revolving doors of who was in charge became tiring.

The internal culture is one of the strongest I have ever experienced and it was great.

Not much, but this is now part of a much bigger consortium that has nothing to do with what I experienced.

If you have a good manager who allows you to do your job, you can contribute to and build some exciting products. Perks and benefits are pretty good as well.

Sr management is slow to make decisions and managers constantly switch priorities to the hot topic of the day. The culture has become very risk adverse so prototyping or releasing beta products are incredibly difficult to do.

Yahoo provided educational classes such a Xcel, word, PPT to improve in your skill set and make your every day work more efficient. The main campus had great food at a subsidised price. The variety of fitness classes was also great. Moving positions internally was always possible and preferred than hiring outside, which is is pro if you are already apart of Yahoo. They also take on people who are changing career paths

Cons

Too much red tape causing slow transitions with everything. Culture is strongly dependent on the department/ team you are on as Yahoo has too many silos. Management is ok. Opportunities to transfer to international opportunities is dependent on your role, Yahoo budget cuts, and Yahoo layoffs. I managed to avoid 6 layoffs d
