I worked at Yale New Haven Health System full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is not "relocating" anytime soon or getting bought out by a hedge fund. Could be a great place to work

    Cons

Senior Management not in control. For a "not for profit" organization, Senior Management is getting paid a lot to do nothing. They do not "live by their values". No one can make a decision or create good policies and procedures....However, the name "Yale" equals BIG money so it doesn't really matter to Senior Management.

    Advice to Management

Get everyone under "one roof" and run that place like a real corporation. A certain "Associate" level employee should especially live by the values of organization and be willing to work with subordinates. Be humble and a team player...not a "person on a mission" to climb that ladder.

    "Overworked and Underpaid"

I have been working at Yale New Haven Health System full-time

    Pros

Sense of personal accomplishment when challenging patients meet with success

    Cons

If you can not supervise yourself and teach yourself everything that you need to know on the job, this is not the department for you.

If you need external praise/recognition, this is not the department for you.

If you want to work with the feeling that you are drowning in direct care, charting, casework, and staff meetings where you are told what new responsibilities you have and feedback is not welcome, then this is definitely the department for you.

    Advice to Management

Management by examining spreadsheets is not an effective way to run any business, much less the business of helping.

Provide direct supervision to new clinicians, including observing them facilitating group treatment.

Management by "walking around" would help in understanding the population we serve.

Express appreciation to your staff on the work that they do with the very compromised patients we serve and the contributions that they make to the program instead of focusing on the negative, much less important aspects of this extremely demanding job.
