      NNICU RN

Mar 8, 2021 - Staff Nurse II in New Haven, CT

      Pros

      - Great teamwork - plenty of resources and help available when needed. Cannot emphasize enough how supported I felt when working there! -The entire interdisciplinary team is very collaborative and nursing opinions are respected/welcomed. - They prioritize safe ratios and staff accordingly. - Newer, well-designed unit with private rooms. I've since been in other units with private rooms and didn't realize just how well-thought out the unit at Yale was until I had left!

      Cons

      - Growth for staff nurses can be a slower process vs other facilities I've worked in. I came in with previous NICU experience so it was not an issue for me, but they typically wait 1-2+ years to orient new NNICU RN's to sicker patients, admissions, etc. It can create a divide between "ICU" vs "non-ICU" nurses. - Rotating schedules between days/nights, sometimes within the same week was PAINFUL. And if you want straight day shift it can take 5+ years to get out of doing at least 1-2 nights per monthly grid.
