I have been working at Yale New Haven Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

YNHH is a trauma level 1 hospital so we often get the worst of the worst in Southern CT. It makes for very interesting patient cases. It's a challenging place to work and a great place to learn--it's a teaching hospital after all. Because it's such a large hospital system, there are many resources available. YNHH also strives to be the best and use EBP as much as possible.

    Cons

Most nurses that are hired are scheduled to work every other weekend. You'll quickly realize how much of toll this takes on your work/life balance. Short staffing is a common problem. Not all the people you work with have the patient in mind, which can be very frustrating. And because we get the worst of the worst, the acuity of the patient population is very high. All of these things combined often make for a very stressful work day. And a lot of stressful work days makes you question whether you chose the right career path.

    Advice to Management

Make more of an effort to make YNHH an enjoyable place to work for employees. Happy employees = happy patients.
