I have been working at Yale New Haven Hospital part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are beautiful, diverse, very friendly and you will always have someone willing to help. You feel like an extra large family. It's like going to a family reunion everyday.

    Cons

It's hard to get in because people don't leave. Most people have been there for over 20 years. Now that it's a magnet hospital they make it harder to get in because they want everyone to already have experience.

    Pros

I'm a new grad, all the nurses on my floor have helped me learn the job, management is very supportive. Great nurse to patient ratio in Smilow.

    Cons

Sometimes it moves very fast, but I think that's to be expected with inpatient acute care.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! I hope to work here for a long time.

    Pros

Can choose which department to volunteer in. Remember seniority have dibs which is fair. Also, have access to scholarship opportunities, and leadership roles

    Cons

no cons. Everyone is super friendly, and you get lunch passes too! Great environment to volunteer surrounded by an awesome hospital crew and interns.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps come up with more programs, for the volunteers who are interested in the health field, to facilitate or make it available for them to take a BLS or CPR certification...of course not for free.
