I worked at Yale University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lot of funding for research. Relaxed environment. Flexible schedule. Nice coworkers and administration. Good salary for comparable positions. Great support offices to career, outreach, patents

    Cons

Huge ego among senior professors and scientist (some of them). Projects are started on the basis "my archenemy is doing it so we have to do it too". No vision of the big picture.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing the group/department as if it were a company (I literally heard a comparison to Apple). Grad-students are what the name suggests: students. They need mentoring from any level not just post-docs.

I have been working at Yale University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Access to excellent additional funding for six guaranteed years and through other sources also for longer such as other research funds. Great relation to Professors

    Cons

Sadly Yale is located in New Haven, CT. One the one hand it provides a good student life but other amenities are missing for sure. Needs to continue to hire faculty in emerging fields

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the way you do things BUT continue to hire faculty in emerging fields and review the spending on different departments and fields more regularly.
