I have been working at Yale University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Yale employment is flexible for students. Time cards and hours are entered online. Payment by direct deposit is easy.

    Cons

Jobs can be very structured and supervisors are not always open to creativity or independent thought. This can be frustrating for people who would like to improve workflows.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employee concerns about getting to work in bad weather, parking, or making it to doctors appointments.

I have been working at Yale University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A lot of possibilities in research collaboration and networking

    Cons

Takes too much time to find helpful advice / activities / to broaden your skill set (managing, teaching, advocating/..) and most of the time you will not be paid for this extra work.

I have been working at Yale University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits, although decreased over recent years, are some of the best in the area.

    Cons

It is a very large and complex business that can be challenging to navigate.

I have been working at Yale University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

.Educational institution, interesting students and faculty, job activities can vary greatly day to day, week to week and month to month, I spend my day (mostly) helping people

    Cons

From the perspective of my job, it feels like the institution is becoming more corporate and is losing the focus on education and training. The business practices are cumbersome, not communicated clearly, and situations for discrete populations aren't consistently and clearly addressed.

    Advice to Management

Your staff are one of your best assets. Do more to be sure that departments do a better job of educating and training staff, treat staff consistently (and well), remind everyone (business offices, department chairs, intermediate staff, etc) of Yale's primary mission and how important everyone is to the achievement of the university's goals.

I have been working at Yale University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1, Nice advisors (in personality and research);
2, A lot of opportunities and benifits

    Cons

    1, The Engineering departments are small;
2, Kind of easy to survive. Self-motivation is strongly needed. I would prefer a place with more intense competition like Tsinghua University, where I got my B.Eng. Degree.

    Advice to Management

Build a better career center for engineering students.

I worked at Yale University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most of the people here are friendly and want you to succeed. The banquet servers work as a team and help each other as much as possible.

    Cons

Upper level management seems unfriendly at times and can come off as extremely rude when providing instruction. Sometimes feels more commanding than instructional.

    Advice to Management

Don't get so stressed out during events! Hire 1 or 2 more managers so current managers aren't so overwhelmed (some work more than 50 hours a week).

I have been working at Yale University as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

This is not a place that pushes hard; people are very laid-back compared with financial or New York companies

    Cons

Engagements and projects are rarely as advertised. Come prepared to be surprised. While there may be full time job offerings, the salaries are not competitive

    Advice to Management

Be much more forthcoming about the limitations on billable hours and the days that the organization is "closed" for the winter break.
