I have been working at Yamaha part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For the most part, piano teachers have a lot of independence in their day-to-day work, how they teach, scheduling makeups, etc. Families pay a steady, monthly tuition rate which provides financial stability. The families I work with are a pleasure (at least 80% of them are). The management at our local branch does not involve itself with how I teach and I enjoy the interaction I have with students and families.

    Cons

No benefits, no pay raises. The management will not allow anyone to go full-time: they cap us at 39.5 hours in order to avoid having to provide benefits. Daily lunch breaks or short break times are unpaid, which is against CA law. Some of the front desk staff are paid below minimum wage. While we wish to report these flagrant violations, we know we do not stand a chance against management. Management tends to direct most of the funds to themselves (husband and wife are owners, and are paid separately and as full-time, although only one of them does the majority of the work).
