I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time

    Pros

The people are amazing! People are the best thing about the company.

    Cons

Going through some serious growing pains right now due to acquisition. it's causing a lot of swirl and turmoil. A lot of people are unsettled and nervous. There is a lot of over-working of employees and very little communication.

I worked at Yankee Candle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the products as well as the opportunities for growth and bonuses.

    Cons

There was a really terrible situation that happened withing the store that I worked at and it caused 4 of the employees to quit because they felt like they weren't heard or taken seriously by upper management.

    Advice to Management

Please listen to the part-timers and assistant managers in your stores. What the Store Manager says, isn't always truth. And remain professional. Don't be-friend any of the employees that you have that work up under you. And to HR, shame on you for not doing your part either and cutting hard working employees out of bonuses that they EARNED.

I worked at Yankee Candle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with the group of people at work.

    Cons

Cheap company to its employees working on the floor.

    Advice to Management

So much push to sell and constently learning ways, tactics to do it with no incentive for the employees for sales success. It was all about the company with a 5 cent raise at the end of the year. Little hours and low pay. Cheap.

    Pros

Meet some great people and staff. You learn alot about candles. Great discount. Nice and friendly environment. You stay busy always something to do

    Cons

Not the best company to work for they can do better. Especially with scheduling they always change the schedule and never tell anyone. They take things very personal very unprofessional

    Advice to Management

More hours, and stop changing the schedule once it is finished. Have managers who don't take things too personal it's retail people come and go. In life things happen very unprofessional

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great discount on candles (50%), and lots of great customers coming in.

    Cons

Only got about 6 hours a week, the company runs a TIGHT ship, super strict on clocking in/out. Little teamwork is involved as every person is focused on making their individual sales (if you don't you get talked to). The structure of how the store functions is annoying and outdated, particularly customer interactions. You are basically forced to harass customers and not leave them alone. You have to act like you're paid on commission, but you are only getting crappy minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Create a new system for selling to customers, as this approach is grossly in-your-face and is a turn-off to many shoppers who like to shop alone. In addition, stop having managers hold such an iron-tight grip over their employees.

I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great customers and lovely people to work in the store. Also, the discount is great!

    Cons

Pay, upper management support and response to needs. The company also has high expectations and a lot of pressure to makes sales. Limited payroll results in working alone at times and benefits offered are limited and not cheap.

    Advice to Management

Higher pay and quicker response to store and individual employee needs!!

I worked at Yankee Candle part-time

    Pros

Good discount on products. Not super challenging, training was very quick because the computer system is very self-explanatory. It is the perfect job to "leave your work at work," meaning it was low stress and carefree.

    Cons

Seem to be perpetually understaffed, most likely due to the fact that they only seemed to hire seasonal employees. There was a big push to "sell" candles, i.e. you are supposed to actively approach customers and match them with their dream candle. I was uncomfortable being so pushy.

    Advice to Management

Hire more part-time but permanent employees, so there is not such a huge turnover at the end of seasons.

I worked at Yankee Candle part-time

    Pros

Discount. Sometimes working with great people.

    Cons

Upper management. No desire to retain good employees. Micro managing. Under paid for amount of physical labor required. If promoted from within, salary lower than if hired from "outside." The Yankee Candle "family" no longer exists.

    Advice to Management

Remember where your "roots" are. Your losing your "base." (People who love your product, use the product, and work for Y.C. because of the people who work there.) You can buy a candle anywhere.
