I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible scheduling and relatively good benefits. Small staff with company-wide emphasis on developing team mentality.

    Cons

There aren't a lot of hours to go around. They never offer overtime. They are not a pay lead.

I have been working at Yankee Candle part-time

    Pros

Very relaxed work atmosphere- as you can imagine, the store is not usually flooded with people at any given time. The managers and other employees are very genuine and want to get to know you. They care about what's going on in your life. I know that, my managers at least, feel like moms. Not much workplace drama. Diverse customer set, from very well off people to people who "just look." Young people, seniors, families...pretty much every walk of life. There is also something very classy about working at Yankee- there is an artistic flair to it that makes it a good job for those who like art, interior design, arrangement, hospitality, and other like fields. Also a manageable, low pressure first job that will teach important workplace skills.

    Cons

Honestly, there are few to none. One downside might be that their salaries are not the highest. (This depends partially on where you work, though.) Be aware that employee rosters typically aren't very big, so expect to actually do your share and be busy when you go to work. I don't see this as a con, but some people looking for an easy paycheck might. Finally, Yankee Candle does have a dress code. (Black, grey, white, and dark blue apparel.) This is a con in that you may have to purchase these things.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire young workers, older people, and those with disabilities. Yankee Candle is a great job for those who may not receive opportunities elsewhere! And please continue to, to the best of your ability, take the time to really get to know your employees as people. It is very special and reassuring, especially as someone working their first job, to have that supportive atmosphere.

I worked at Yankee Candle full-time

    Pros

The people are the strength of this company. Amazing culture.

    Cons

The leadership team is not doing a good job at promoting internally. There is no room for growth, it is very top heavy. Way too many VPs and not enough managers.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you do all you can to retain your employees.

I worked at Yankee Candle as an intern

    Pros

You get to smell every candle you come across for fun! Helping people decide which candle to bring home to their loved ones is just amazing. You really get to interact with people and their tastes in candles.

    Cons

There weren't really any except they gossip.

    Advice to Management

Stop gossiping about people. Don't get too upset if the new person doesn't get it the first couple times. Be patient.

    Advice to Management

I need more hours to work!! Not enough hours!

    "Fundraising Clerk"

Former Employee - Fundraising Clerk in Wilbraham, MA

I worked at Yankee Candle part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Yankee Candle has an employee-friendly work environment, especially within its fundraising department. Each worker feels like they are an important part of the fundraising process and the managers are generally friendly and helpful. The option of overtime pay for up to twelve hours is also a plus.

    Cons

Some aspects of the job do tend to become repetitive and the employee may start to lose focus after spending hours validating orders on a computer screen. In addition, at the Deerfield office, there is often not adequate space (or enough computers) for the many fundraising employees to work on one task at the same time.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps creating a larger working space for fundraising employees so they do not have to borrow the desks and computers of call center workers. In addition, switching up the tasks a little more to increase concentration and productivity.
