Management out of touch at times. Some of the people who have been there a long time aren't team players.

I worked at Yates Petroleum (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere and employees that care about people first, not just the profit.

    Cons

Some of the work was a little repetitive.

    Advice to Management

None. Management are some of the best people I've ever had the privilege to work under.

I have been working at Yates Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are good people and good to work with. Always out by 5pm so good work and liesure life balance. Pay is not bad.

    Cons

Strange communications environment, most folks just do what there told without questions. Always changing and unclear direction from management. Company seems to always be in financial trouble.

    Advice to Management

Not sure but recommend something should change. Because nobody really says much good about the "one man" management team. Ok, thanks.

I have been working at Yates Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Yates allows an employee to have a wide degree of responsibility, which allows for learning a lot.

They seem to be able to withstand some of the ups and downs of the market.

    Cons

Pay is below industry standard in certain, if not, all departments.

Yates is called the training school for other big companies, due to low pay and very demanding workload.

    Advice to Management

Either hire more people or pay more, otherwise the best people are going to keep leaving.

  9. "Okay place to work but owners hire idiots at top positions that hurt the company as a whole."

I worked at Yates Petroleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The SP Family always treated me more than fairly. Pay was not always the best but, still fair and correct with national averages.

    Cons

Good place to work years ago but, that has changed with a new selfish non-family oriented management in control. This was not always the case. Mgmt has hired so called pros with bogus resumes many, many times. It takes years to get rid of these people. I have seen people do nothing for years before they finally leave or are asked to leave.

    Advice to Management

Get the old team back in to take care of it. You were too greedy to let them do their work and now you have a 10th rate company going no wheres. The company is 10-15 years behind the curve on e&p technology. It's a total joke. Bad management creates even poorer middle management that makes it hard on us worker bees. Use to all managers were required to work. Lately those middle managers are treated like princess. Maybe they are all realated to the current family portion in charge.

I have been working at Yates Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The atmosphere, every friday everyone in company quits early, supervisors are very understanding and give a lot of lea way to accomadate personal lives. Great place it you are really motivated and a self starter you can get a lot of experience here.

    Cons

Pay is not consistent across the board nor anywhere at all close to being transparent. And it is a big secret as to what other people make. Management threatens to fire for it upon hiring. If they were transparent it would help morale at lot. That combined with getting close to industry standards for postions would make this a great place to work

    Advice to Management

Evaluate the lack of transparency in all employees pay.
