I have been working at Yellow Pages full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vacation and personal time is good. Sick time is excellent. It's not limited to 5 days per year which is very helpful if you have a chronic illness.

    Cons

My department requires a college degree but pay isn't commensurate for a college graduate. Not much opportunity for advancement. Training is inconsistent. Environment and expectations are of an assembly line. Emphasis is focused more on numbers than on quality. I never thought I would have a job with a production quota.

    Advice to Management

Show the employees who consistently complete efficient quality work they are appreciated, give them raises. When new employees are hired at a higher standard starting pay; make sure that existing employees' pay is not less than the new standard.

I have been working at Yellow Pages full-time

    Pros

Fun, young culture - bake sales, major sporting events (Olympics) on office TVs, etc.
Great work-life balance - no pressure to take the job home, very flexible schedules

    Cons

The company will allow you to move between departments, but aside from "Senior" positions (relatively same job, minor pay increase), there is very little room to move up in this company. The pay scale is minimal at best.

I worked at Yellow Pages full-time

    Pros

Salary is very competitive since they have no choice given the high turnover.
Maybe a new CEO will clean house.

    Cons

    No decision-making AT ALL.
If you are not in IT, you are worthless. Good luck marketing!
Office politics like I have never seen before.
    This company is doomed.
Everyone talks about everyone else behind their backs.

    Advice to Management

Declare bankruptcy NOW. Forget competing with Google. Soon, Google won't even allow your results on their results page.

I worked at Yellow Pages full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the employees seem pretty cool, they have a fairly laid back attitude and as long as you are pulling your weight you are pretty much free to go about your business. Fairly flexible schedules- pay was decent as well.

    Cons

I felt that the benefits could be better- pick up more of the tab on the health insurance- because the employee shoulders most of the cost. There are lay offs from time to time- but more on the print side- so be wary of that... go for digital positions those are more likely to be stable.

    Advice to Management

Try not to play favorites. It discourages others from wanting to try to move up in the company.

I worked at Yellow Pages (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    good people to work with

    Cons

have to kiss up in a major way to get anywhere no matter what your numbers
not invested in staff. They cut wages and re-worked the commission plan promising that it wouldn't change the way you were paid. Who can believe that?

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

Dishonest corporation that takes advantage of hard working people, particularly foreigners. Yellow Pages Group Canada discriminates against foreigners.

Too much overtime, not paid enough

    Pros

Can build basic experience when you don't have any.

    Cons

Poor training (when there is some). Low wage. Low raise - if you're given any. Lack of promotional opportunities. Restructuring has caused waves of layoffs and leaves most unsure if they'll have a job within the next year. Passive aggressive management.

    Advice to Management

Even though it's a chore, spend some time caring about the substance of the matter/problem. Find ways to make pro-active, long-term improvements instead of knee-jerk reactions to everything.
