I worked at Yelp as an intern

    Pros

    - Pay is good
    - Excellent intern program with lots of events
    - Mentor was very eager to teach me about technical concepts (will vary depending on your mentor)
    - It was my first time working in web, but there was plenty of support in the form of documentation and help from co-workers to get me up to speed
    - No unreasonable expectations, I was never expected to stay late even when I was given a project with a deadline

    Cons

Pretty overbearing "tech culture," you gotta always be smiling and agreeing with everyone. Probably not an issue for most people.

    I worked at Yelp full-time

    Pros

Great work environment with energetic coworkers. Nice office buildings with plenty of accommodating space. Helpful mangers and mentors available for advice and growth.

    Cons

Hard to move up in the ranks and establish a full time career. Financial pressures on sales personal to make sales in order to generate a livelihood.

    Advice to Management

Increase room for growth in order to allow the entry personal room to move up in the yelp ranks.

    Pros

Amazing people to work with, especially the leadership team. The product actually works which makes you proud to work here.

    Cons

The bar is sometimes lowered to help make underperforming reps feel more confident but it's sales and at the end of the day this should never be a theme in sales.

I have been working at Yelp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Immediate performance feedback, regular company updates, rapid growth, plenty of opportunity for those that are hungry, primarily promotions from within, great atmosphere, availability to work in offices throughout US.

    Cons

For some it is easy to only see the downside of the role when months are slow. Not for those without perseverance or strong work ethic.

    Advice to Management

    None

I worked at Yelp full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture! Managers who really care about your development. Exponential growth opportunities within the company! If you’re fresh outta college, you’ll love the base salary. Your peers become your friends, some will be lifelong. Fully stocked kitchens with beers kegs for after work happy hours EVERYDAY! Yelp is seriously second to none. Really great place to work if you’re looking for a peaceful place to make money at.

    Cons

Deal sizes are capped off, which conflict the notion of “uncapped commission”. Your day is completely the same every single day. If you’re tenured in sales, you will not enjoy the base salary. That’s all I can think of right now. Yelp is a great place but it is also a place you get tired of after about 9 months and want to quit. You will love yelp but you will be ready to leave. Trust me, it’s a trend. Average rep sticks around for about a year and leaves.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if you guys conducted a mental health interview before choosing your management because I’ve had 2 who just were not mentally prepared to be a leader.

I worked at Yelp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

young environment, great people, motivated people

    Cons

Long hours, high volume of calls made, lack of transparency from management (you get told your a month away from a promotion everyday)

    Advice to Management

Chill out. Not every business needs Yelp ads shoved down their throat immediately.
