I have been working at York University full-time

    Pros

Short hours, little to no supervision, can do your own homework / surf the internet during downtime.

    Cons

Low pay, mostly evening shifts during the school year, lots of downtime with not much to do.

    Advice to Management

Give us more duties than simply opening/closing/patrolling the labs. When you interview us you check our general computer hardware knowledge, so you know we have that, so give us work related to that.

I have been working at York University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays well for the amount of time you spend teaching. Getting to know and work with your students is enjoyable, and other ta's and professors are usually very helpful if you are a new ta.

    Cons

You may be nervous on your first class but it gets better. In the beginning there is a lot of prep work, especially for classes you haven't taught before. But by the second or third time around it becomes super easy. Sometimes you have to invigilate mid terms or exams on weekends, and they are boring.

    Advice to Management

The credit system (pay rate) for how much courses are worth teaching is a bit skewed. Some courses are worth more credits such as bio 1000 and 1001 whereas others are worth less.

    Pros

Flexible hours with added benefit of learning a new subject depending on the course. I may also hold office hours virtually depending on the course. So work is flexible and may suit your schedule

    Cons

Maybe high in workload depending on the course. The location of the university is not the best.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! York university is a good university to be a TA
