    Pros

    -Good Salary for starting
    -Amazing Benefits.
-Dress code is casual over most of the campus, (i.e baseball hat, t-shirt, cargo shorts, running shoes without socks)
-Advanced job listing for internal applicants before it goes external.

    Cons

-FULL of lazy/overpaid old timers just riding it out until they get to pensions, emphasis on overpaid... ( I'll say it like it IS)
-Old timers will refuse to write documentation, because they view it as a threat to their job security.
-Union (YUSA-1) represents everything wrong with unions... pandering to senior employees who pull grievances about simple things like 'wanting to wear sandals" in a role that involves daily heavy lifting. seriously?
-Management. They complain about budget cuts, while I see their sunshine list salaries going up 5+10% every year.
-Management technical knowledge is often obsolete, but make decisions without asking employees with more up-to-date knowledge...then blame them when it's not working, so they can have a head on a stick to scapegoat to their director.
-Too many managers who just routinely attend useless meetings without any common goal but to make themselves look good. There is no unified goal or aim.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dead weight, and start from the top managment. A Complete OVERHAUL

I have been working at York University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good wages, good hours, you get to meet students that are like minded and want to work.
They understand you have school and are flexible with that.

    Cons

Management can be poor. There is such a long ladder of people you need to get through to get an answer or to get something approved.

I worked at York University (More than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity to interact and share ideas with both students and professors. Good teaching experience. Allows flexibility and control over teaching methods.
    Good pay.

    Cons

    Hours not flexible.
No opportunity for full time hours.
Classes are assigned to you, therefore you may end up teaching a class that you do not enjoy or are not the best suited.

    Advice to Management

Management does a decent job in the beginning of the year to go over expectations, etc,...however, possibly holding a monthly meeting for TA's would be beneficial.

I worked at York University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Compensation and perks are great. Stable employment and the work isn't boring. Some teams are really great and the academic site is innovative and interesting.

    Cons

Administrative culture is negative and there is heavy union presence. Processes are old and it takes forever to implement change. Numerous projects took years to come to fruition because of politics and were even restarted because policy "wasn't followed". No upwards internal promotion as there are no mid level opportunities, just entry level and senior requiring more experience.

    Advice to Management

Let innovation happen. Make administration more lean and address culture issues. There are too many people there who are older and are only there to further their own careers. So many people start their career here only to learn their efforts are going into a black hole and leave. Too many staff are afraid of their managers and unions are very combative because of this.

I worked at York University part-time

    Pros

As a student this position was:
    - flexible in your work schedule
    - good hours
    - good pay
    - great events

All that being said, it is all dependent on the managers attitude towards the team.

    Cons

There is a lot of politics in the workplace, between co-workers, staff and management. It can become a hostile work environment quickly but it really depends on the management.

    Advice to Management

Take the initiative to get to know the workers before you start to change the dynamic of the work environment.
