I have been working at York University (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Unmatched Excellent Benefits (Dental, Vision, Medical, Para-medical, Naturopath, Chiropractor, Physio just to name a few)
Free tuition for employee and dependents
Vacation Increase depending on years of service
3 Personal Days off per year
    Sick days

    Cons

It's hard to find certain pockets/units within the university where your core values align with your team.

The hard-working work harder and disengaged employees sometimes get away with doing the bare minimum due to the unionized environment.

Career Progression / Promotion is challenging as you have to compete for your own role with other union members that have greater seniority. Seniority takes precedence over initiative, performance track and contribution sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the strong members of your team through compensation or mentorship into a leadership track.

    Lead by example.

Have honest conversations with your team and create as many opportunities for your team to see you as a leader/mentor to create a sense of safety and belonging.

I have been working at York University (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's great, you work towards improving community safety and its the best payed student job on campus. You must have a G license in order to apply which a lot of students don't have and you must be a full time student.

    Cons

In the winter you work outdoors, this can take a toll. Depending on the time of the year you will be doing a lot of walking or a lot of driving. When you first start you will likely not have too many set hours, but will work the hours that someone else booked off.

    Advice to Management

Management is great! They are friendly and helpful.
