I worked at Yorkville Sound full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Yorkville was great to me as an entry-level employee. The staff were welcoming, fun, and supportive and the hours and pay were great. The company is well-established so getting into their routine was pretty easy. It was nice to get in-sync with a well-oiled machine.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of opportunity for advancement within the company as it is rather small and "set in its ways" in terms of office shuffle. There are some out-of-state sales positions, but movement is infrequent.

I have been working at Yorkville Sound full-time

    Pros

Management is very people friendly, both to employees and customers. I doubt you will find many factories that are as clean and safe as this one. The business is profitable and grows every year. There is a very good profit sharing program. Pleasant working atmosphere with many long standing employees. Products are interesting, designed in-house and sold world-wide.

    Cons

Sort of a weird one. Because it is such a great place to work, people seldom leave, so it takes a while to move up the ranks. Fortunately, the company is growing so there is movement.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing.

    Pros

Purchase discounts at Long & McQuade

    Cons

Poor, workmanship with post sales support. Yorkville by definition is considered as a no name house brand exclusive to Long & McQuade. To have Gibson exclusively distributed in Canada by a division of L & M is mind boggling. Yorkville started in a back room space & L & M as a repair/ refurbish business. Now they're big but unfortunatelly the same nickel & dime approach decades ago exists to this day. More often than not Gibson, Line 6, Yorkville products are returned for warranty - I've seen numerous occasions where they'll substitute OEM Gibson components with parts from China. Imagine Hyundai being the exclusive distributor for Mercedes....do you actually think post sales support will be Mercedes level quality or Hyundai grade service? Then theirs politics, all retailers must purchase Gibson from Yorkville/ L & M - guess who's going to get preferred service quality, their in house retail business unit or competing retailers ? Like I said, truly mind boggling how such a big brand like Gibson supports such a corrupt and monopolized distribution supply chain in Canada.

As far as moving up the ladder, senior leadership at L & M / Yorkville is Jewish and unless you are part of their synagogue paying the expected contributory dues to be part of the faith community, there's zero possibility of promotion with pay increase...I emphasize pay increase or lach thereof !

    Pros

A very interesting place to work, where people are treated with respect and are empowered to do their job properly. The environment is very open and honest and employees tend to stay with this company for a long time.

    Cons

There really aren't any major downsides. One might find a job with slightly better benefits or pay, but the atmosphere wouldn't be as good. Besides, those jobs sometimes dpeople actually ca isappear - just ask a GM worker.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and feel proud of what you . You have accomplished. Yorkville is a really friendly, stable environment where people can actually enjoy their job.
