I worked at Young Harris College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a small college, so you get to know everyone. It is like a family or community style college. It is a four year private liberal arts institution.

    Cons

It is up in North Georgia so it is a small town type place.

    Pros

    Beautiful scenery and
    Lovely weather

    Advice to Management

Value your human resource. The only way to have a name in academe is through your faculty.

    Pros

The area is beautiful. Most of the people are pleasant. Slow paced atmosphere in rural north Georgia mountains.

    Cons

Culture has fostered behaviors of abuse and distrust among its management teams. Administration does not work together for a common vision.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect. Team building skills, management skills, and people skills.

I worked at Young Harris College full-time

    Pros

Great coworkers, Beautiful Campus, gym on site, good events and sports, dining hall and "fringe" benefits are abundant.

    Cons

Very small town. Lots of good-old-boy politics. Hard work is not rewarded well. Staff and faculty are completely different pay scales. Pay is very bad for staff. Benefits are good, but worse for younger/new workers and more favored towards workers who have been here for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Spend considerable time reviewing your employee retention policies or the college will continue to be a revolving door of talent. You get good people, and they leave for the same reasons your students leave. Now that the college is the size you need you should concentrate on making it the quality you need by spending the time and money on people instead of facilities.
