I have been working at Young Learners and Southwest Schools full-time

    Pros

Great place to take a break from the district

    Cons

Teachers do not have own classrooms and all materials are stored at your own expense. Also, the partnership schools never do their half of the work in the classrooms. Pay is low 30,000. Also, you only get 5 personal days per year.

I worked at Young Learners and Southwest Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staff and teachers were awesome! Lots of support and help.
Kids are pretty good overall - not really any bad kids.

    Cons

Extremely negative administration. If they like you, you're gold. If not .... move on.
    Library is critically under stocked.
Playground is minimal - no place to really run for the kids.
Art and music are almost non-existent.
    Administration has power issues.

    Advice to Management

Structure is one thing but having all the doors open and expecting children in grades 5 and lower to be silent in the hall is unreasonable. There are real personnel issues with administration, too.

    Pros

    There were some helpful coworkers

    Cons

This school does not adequately educate its students; these students would be better served in HISD. The principals did not support the teachers at all. The students were incredibly disrespectful. The teachers were not supposed to send the misbehaving students out of the room; this just caused chaos and no learning to occur whatsoever. Students threw things at teachers with no consequences.

    Advice to Management

Principals need to support the teachers and remove badly behaved students from school. It is a charter school, so students are supposed to behave to remain at this school.
