I worked at Young Life full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great area to do ministry and reach kids/families. Good benefits. Amazing location. Young Life's resources for staff are high-par. Kids in the area are fantastic!

    Cons

Little to no support from committee. Constant neglect from Regional Director and regional trainers. Area is in deficit; information to which was intentionally withheld during the interview process. Reduced salary without prior notice. Ministry is run like a business. Little-to-no effective assistance from regional management, while expectation/demands for staff are both high and unrealistic.

    Advice to Management

There are people in supervisory level positions who are clearly not called to ministry, nor a leadership-style position. When you run a ministry like a business, you've lost sight of the very message of the Gospel that you're trying to spread.

    Pros

Amazing benefits. Freedom in your schedule.

    Cons

Very in-bred organization. They want their own type of people and will push people unlike their supervisor out through assessments and unsubstantiated evaluations. Dangerous.

    Advice to Management

Diversify. Embrace people that are different than you.

    Pros

great ministry, relationships built. Camping is a wonderful experience that transforms lives. YoungLife has some exceptional employees that are caring and hard working. I absolutely love the work being done but disappointed in the leadership for staff.

    Cons

poor organizational leadership, lack of professional knowledge, extremely poor communication for staff. Staff retention rates are very disturbing, do your research. Lots of unchristian situations occur within the organization. Not many staff develop a career out of Younglife, there is a reason for it.

    Advice to Management

Expect professionalism from all staff. Money management needs to have better accountability, especially with senior staff. If you do not have a great RD,your experience on staff will not be enjoyable.
