I have been working at Younkers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The discount; 20-25% depending on how long you've worked there.

    Cons

    HORRIBlE pay!
Management is lacking greatly! The store manager has been known to scream until literally red in the face and threaten employees at morning meetings for not opening enough store credit cards. They plaster lists all over the walls of every employees numbers, pointing out "zero producers". This is all meant to embarrass into "trying harder".
Managers talk about employees to other employees, yet never addressing the problem directly.
There is no sense of leadership from any of the managers, and absolutely no appreciation for any of the employees. It is a hostile work environment. This is why so many people hire in, work a week or two, and then never come back.
Severely understaffed, which means getting the breaks employees are entitled to is rare.

    Advice to Management

Learn to appreciate your employees and TELL THEM!!! Lead by example. If I don't know how to do something, teach me! Don't allow your stresses to influence how you treat your employees. Dignity and respect is a requirement, anything less is unacceptable.

I have been working at Younkers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The clientele that I have the good fortune of working with.

    Cons

The constant pursuit of opening a company credit card. It feels like we are there to open credit cards and while we are at it, sell some cosmetics.

    Advice to Management

Be more supportive of your employees, especially those that work in special sales areas.

    I worked at Younkers part-time

    Pros

Well it's my only retail job so it's hard to compare it to other retail work but it wasn't absolutely terrible. I liked some of the people. The work so easy it hurt that one's a double edged sword. If you want something, anything.. yeah it's better than fast food.

    Cons

Boring, Costumer servive, repetetive, no challenge, unfullfilling, everybody is stoned.

    Advice to Management

Try not to hate your life.
