I have been working at Yount, Hyde & Barbour full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Please consider this review - it is honest and needs to be said to help people determine if they really want to work here. If you love to be over worked and underpaid, this is a fantastic place to work! I've never seen a place full of women gossiping this much before, and it is TOLERATED. The women/men actually think being "bossy" is considered leadership skills. Someone needs to step in and teach them the difference and how to promote a positive work atmosphere. The benefits are overstated and everyone is extremely nice in the interview, but this is ONLY because the turnover rate is extremely HIGH. I've never seen people leave a place so quickly, but I'd say it was one person every two weeks, if not more. Please ask other accountants about this company's reputation - you will find these exact comments. This is the YHB reputation.

    Cons

Underpaid, overworked, poor leadership, a gossip column, poor food quality, "Old School" rules, double standards, poor benefits, disrespectful, and a superior attitude towards others. They will tell you they are changing these things, but it's not going to happen for a long time. Please ask other accountants outside of YHB, references, and the people who currently work there - very poor and public reputation. They will NOT invest in you, your education or your future. Please review the Principals' experience and education before accepting - this will tell you everything.

    Advice to Management

You need to do your own work to find out what needs to improve. People are telling you the same things over and over again.

I have been working at Yount, Hyde & Barbour full-time

    Pros

Partners are easy to talk to, employees are friendly and helpful

    Cons

Each office has a different culture, and its noticeable.

    Advice to Management

There's a lot of employees working 2nd jobs and doing other work on company time. Not sure why they get by with it, but they do. Doesn't seem fair to others who are working hard and putting in the time. Everyone is so busy, so obviously it goes unnoticed.

I have been working at Yount, Hyde & Barbour full-time

    Pros

Everyone is accessible and friendly! They all seem to be interested in giving me the tools I need to grow my career! It's a fun and lively place to work where I feel valued as an employee! They provide ample time-off and competitive benefits. They are always trying to improve to maintain their status and great reputation in each community they serve!

    Cons

A few are slower to change than others, but that's going to be the situation anywhere. Many of the leaders ARE open to fresh ideas and change which helps make things happen!

    Pros

The ability to work in and near major cities and develop a strong network without having to live in a major metro area. They work to develop a strong work/life balance for employees. In most cases they are liberal with time off. There is a much greater opportunity for success and upward mobility than national CPA firms. Partners are usually accessible and genuinely interested in what staff have to say.

    Cons

Each office has its own, very different and distinct culture, which can occasionally cause some minor discord. It is not quite as "choose your own adventure" as advertised for incoming employees.
