    Pros

Camaraderie with coworkers--like soldiers who survive a war together; at times seeing a kid improve; some fun company events

    Cons

Where to start? Leadership is terrible across the board. They simply don't care about employees at all. Even the new "higher salaries" is a joke. I feel they simply use and abuse the staff. No one ever gets real time off. I was continually forced to come in on my scheduled vacation days and that was never even acknowledged. Staff who don't directly help kids get no respect at all. And the new laptop technology they tout is just a way for them to keep tabs on staff who they believe are cheating them. Even many of the leaders have left as conditions get worse and worse. It's a terrible place to work. Dangerous job with no support.

    Advice to Management

I think the only way it can survive is to get all new leaders who value people and understand how to effectively manage in today's world.

I worked at Youth Villages full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This was one of the worst employment experiences I have ever had- from the pay to the hours to the management. There were absolutely no pros.

    Cons

Everything. This job was horrible. It was a complete waste of my degree, time, energy and talents

    Advice to Management

Increase your pay rates, decrease the 80 hour work weeks, hire competent employees and try using real empirical data, rather than internal reviews.

I worked at Youth Villages full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are good people. The terms and paperwork teach you transferrable skills.

    Cons

The hours, some of the supervisors have real chips on their shoulders. There is no debriefing after a rough on call weekend. My sleep schedule was messed up by the job. Which caused me to be tired on the road.

    Advice to Management

Recharge how you operate. Management, hours, paperwork load etc

I worked at Youth Villages full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pays mileage. Some really nice co-workers. Great people. Very dedicated to working with children in crisis, and amazing at what they do

    Cons

Work shifts change constantly. Overnight often. Long hours on call with follow-up, appointments and extensive clinical documentation to be completed within 1 - 3 days.

    Advice to Management

Definitely not a work environment I would recommend. Leadership lacked integrity and did not act in good faith in their interactions routinely.

I have been working at Youth Villages full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good to get your foot in the door & start a job in the mental health field. Friendly staff.

    Cons

The management at youth villages under-staffs and doesn't ensure safety to their employees. They are short staffed and it's a dangerous place to work. When a crisis erupts there's barely enough help on deck (or at all for that matter) to help you safely resolve it. Due to their lack of staffing capabilities and having a backup crew they encrourage emoloyees to come in even during terrible conditions. I'm a hard worker and can make it in whenever possible, but they didn't care; they just told you to get there. OSHA and the Dpf of labor should take a look at 1: the working environment and lack of security and 2: the management styles and their entouragement to come in "no matter what"

They focus on the bottom line, and skate by with the bare minimum. I do not feel safe working here.

    Advice to Management

This place has a horrible rating on here and other sites, but I still wanted to give it a chance. Your turnover rates are so high because your don't treat your employees with respect and dont follow the necessary steps to ensure a safe happy work place with some work/life balance.

    Pros

-if you're looking to start a career based on a helping profession this job will show you exactly what a life of working in that would be like

    Cons

-there is no treatment for the girls at GL. I was there 3 months & I never saw a group activity, sessions, plan b crisis counseling etc.

-management was hard to deal with. If you earn vacation time/sick time you need to plan months in advance. There is absolutely no times you can call out sick.

-I worked countless 24 hour shifts (if an er trip is needed a TC gets thrown in with no info about the patient & no shift relief.)you're expected to be back into work 3 hours after a 24 hour shift.

-management would ask you to spend personal money. (Activities or if a patient loses something and we need to replace it)

-total disregard by management. my belongings got stollen and MOD refused to come across campus because it was dark.

-I will never unsee the things I saw at GL. self harm and violence etc.

-there was a brawl on campus and no one could tell me what to do when it happens again.

    Advice to Management

Please watch out for your employees. We chose this because we care and love people. Change the awful four days in a row with one crazy long day schedule. Too many crisis happen to expect that schedule to be acceptable.

Pay and benefits are fair. You will get great exposure to community based social services. The best part of the job is the kids.

    Cons
