I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

SOME very good, caring people with integrity. Those people made the days better. Made some life long friends i am very grateful for.

    Cons

Too many managers, who do not lead. Extremely high turn over. Training and departmental support is neglected to the fullest. Management is oblivious to the needs of employees and does not provide tools needed to properly complete daily tasks and often openly engages in unprofessional behavior and gossip. Way behind on innovative processes to run locations more efficiently. No "outside the box" thinking or leadership.

    Advice to Management

Hire intentionally. Hire management with experience, integrity and values. Provide training opportunities. Treat ALL employees and associates with respect.

I have been working at Yusen Logistics full-time

    Pros

Less worrisome than competitors in the industry, no hard sales goals, great facilities, benefits and pay.

    Cons

Lacks the fun and potential pay of brokers within the industry, little accountability, long standing employees create roadblocks.

    Advice to Management

Create and adopt a less serious atmosphere, include modern and accepted brokerage atmosphere in which compensates for the stress of the industry and allows for team building.

I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong leadership teams from the top down. Clear job expectations. Team atmosphere for management. Sufficient staffing to get the job done on time each day. Clear communication to know what the daily goals are.

    Cons

Two shifts each day causes some finger pointing when things aren't the way they are supposed to be. Rest room facilities are only at one end of the 400 foot long warehouse.

I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Experienced employees can help give anyone great knowledge and assistance when entering the industry.

    Cons

No room for growth and promotion, poor management who does not care about how much work they put on employees, poor relationships between employees, branch managers don't always have a clue as to what their job is.

    Advice to Management

Train managers to do their jobs, if you aren't going to spend money on the training hire managers with management experience. Look at employee performance and work to grow employees who are your hard workers, create a growth path like the rest of the industry has for logistics Operators so that young employees will be more likely to stay for growth and promotion. Reward hard working employees not lazy ones.

I have been working at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are ok. Could be better.

    Cons

Consistently inconsistent. Departments do not work together. Impossible to get help from other areas. Management is a joke...they always find something wrong with everything you do.

    Advice to Management

Put leaders in place that can lead a team instead of just take up space and never help anyone.

    Pros

The employees treat you like family and most are very helpful when you have a problem.

    Cons

You usually start as a temp and seems to take forever to get permanent employment.

    Advice to Management

The only thing I can think of is the pay but then again that is the way it is with most jobs

I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time

    Pros

Benefits package, building amenities (That's about it)

    Cons

The negatives depend on the audience. This company is basically just another Japanese company in a cut throat low margin industry with serious challenges. It may be terrific compared to some organizations in Japan...

Unless you can stomach the negatives of work culture of Japan, without the benefits, this organization really only offers below market salaries, long hours and non existent office culture/integration.

Expect to sit, not speak or interact for sometimes entire days, literally communicating only via email.

It offers little to no growth and employs only Japanese expats above low middle management, who rotate their service every four years or so. With rare exception, this system basically ensures constant turnover of management and turn over of native workers looking upward, in addition to high turnover for many other reasons.

In the end, most positions have very long hours, staring at a screen day in and day out with very little interaction if any, no fusion and basically complete segregation interoffice.

In other words, this is not a place that people want to work and with rare exception, it certainly comes off as such.

Long hours, high turnover, low or non existent morale

Would not recommend to anyone unless desperate

    Advice to Management

Advice probably wouldn't make sense, most issues are systemic and due to inherent differences and challenges in mixing entirely different work cultures.
