I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time

    Pros

Benefits package, building amenities (That's about it)

    Cons

The negatives depend on the audience. This company is basically just another Japanese company in a cut throat low margin industry with serious challenges. It may be terrific compared to some organizations in Japan...

Unless you can stomach the negatives of work culture of Japan, without the benefits, this organization really only offers below market salaries, long hours and non existent office culture/integration.

Expect to sit, not speak or interact for sometimes entire days, literally communicating only via email.

It offers little to no growth and employs only Japanese expats above low middle management, who rotate their service every four years or so. With rare exception, this system basically ensures constant turnover of management and turn over of native workers looking upward, in addition to high turnover for many other reasons.

In the end, most positions have very long hours, staring at a screen day in and day out with very little interaction if any, no fusion and basically complete segregation interoffice.

In other words, this is not a place that people want to work and with rare exception, it certainly comes off as such.

Long hours, high turnover, low or non existent morale

Would not recommend to anyone unless desperate

    Advice to Management

Advice probably wouldn't make sense, most issues are systemic and due to inherent differences and challenges in mixing entirely different work cultures.

    Pros

Benefits are relatively competitive at best

    Cons

The only way to describe the way the "Leadership" operates, is the incredible potential they have to produce a wildly successful reality TV show called, "The Twilight Zone - Tokyo meets Secaucus". The leadership here is very corrupt and poorly run with, at best, a sub par understanding of Federal Employment Laws and Regulations. It is shocking they are still around. The largest bucket in their budget is reserved for settling lawsuits with former employees. Keep lawsuits coming my friends. What a shame :(

    Advice to Management

Hire HR and Legal leadership who are competent in their fields and actually take their advice.

I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people were nice and established friendships. That is really it.

    Cons

Everyone backstabs each other. Always blaming someone else for something that goes wrong. You can't trust your boss's because they will share with others your Business. Not to mention favoritism. It is very obvious.

    Advice to Management

Learn how treat employees with respect. Don't talk behind employees backs. Everyone finds out. Maybe mgmt should look at actual successful companies such as google, apple, or zappos and use there values.

    Pros

Great coworkers. Has decent industry reputation (mostly because of affiliation with NYK Line and customer service, not as a good place to work).

    Cons

Upper management are actually nice people for the most part. Middle management is where the problems lie. Typical "do as I say, not as I do" mentality. A very stuck-in-their-ways mentality, when the answer to "Why?" is usually "This is the way we've been doing it". Very resistant to change, although they will claim otherwise.

    Advice to Management

Your middle management are a bunch of yes men in front of you, who actually have no idea what you want from them when they leave your offices.

I worked at Yusen Logistics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company actually has a decent benefits package. It's very close to NYC. Nice looking office building.

    Cons

I.T. department shows preferential treatment toward Asians. Manipulates the "annual review" process to NOT give credit for good work. Marketing department suffers from "moving goalpost" syndrome. Executives are oblivious to how low moral is because of not being told the truth my directors/managers.

    Advice to Management

Double check to ensure that directors are truly treating employees fair and ethical. This place is plagued with managers who treat people like crap.
