  1. "How to learn home construction remodeling......"

I worked at Z Corp as an intern (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for a company like Z Corp. was excellent because of the flexibility and autonomy it provided in making my own decisions when conflict, problems, or opportunities came up. Fantastic place to learn the home building or home remodeling business. No bureaucracy, which allowed more focus on making good decisions and helping me to understand not to make bad decisions which could impact budget, timing, and profitability.

    Cons

Small business so it was hard to maintain consistent buying, selling and remodeling homes without a larger budget or bringing on a silent partner.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for great opportunities to understand, conceptualize, and learn the construction trade. I enjoyed the ability to work in the trenches and be able to see first hand what it takes to get a home ready for someone to purchase and be pleased with.

I worked at Z Corp full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There were some very talented people where one could learn a lot from.

    Cons

Unrealistic product management objectives and senior management could not make key decisions early in a product development cycle for "go" and especially "no-go". Could not retain talented employees that made a difference in a robust product. Human resource as a department was inadequate.

    Pros

If you have good stuff to say they listen, though they may not act simply because its too hard. Its the coolest product around, unless you're into robots.

    Cons

The operations team does not like change. Its had several opportunities to take feedback and do great things over the last 2 years but has not.

I worked at Z Corp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wonderful people below the CEO level make working there a delight but it will never succeed under current management.

    Cons

There is no empowerment of employees.

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen. Don't walk into every room thinking you are the smartest guy around and have nothing to learn.
