I have been working at ZF Friedrichshafen (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work environment is great. There are people here that have been around for several years, and other just coming on (like me 3+ years). The workload is well measured, and each employee has a voice. The diversity is superb, and overall fair.

    Cons

As a German company, there is a lot of favoritism, which I guess is expected. The hiring policies are outdated; experience, skills and capability are not valued as much as a degree.
HR is inconsistent; I was transferred from one region of the US to another, without a change in my salary based on the fact that according to their feedback, there was no change in cost in living. According to all the standard metrics, this is not true. What's worse, other employees that did the same transfer did receive increases.
I'm currently hired to perform in a position different to that of my title, for the fact that I did not meet the job description's requirements. However, I perform to a level the same as my peers, and am expected to meet the same results, while receiving a significant lesser salary.
Trainings and improvement opportunities are a battle. This company does not encourage Management to promote the growth of their employees.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent, fair and just. It's not easy to consider each employee as an individual, which would be great. But if you set an equivalent bar, and allow for individual growth offered to all, this will at least not generate inconsistencies and create disruption inside the company.

I worked at ZF Friedrichshafen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Ability to have Sick Days.

    Cons

Most leadership is weak. People promoted based upon what their ethnicity can show to outsiders. Zoo monkeys could do a better job. HR in corporate is operated by opinion. Decisions are made by the spaghetti throw against wall method.

    Advice to Management

I do not have any advice to management. Most of the management need to be removed from their posts. They swim in a tank that's clouded by egos, lies, blame shifting, defensive behavior, and inappropriate propequity effect behaviors.

I worked at ZF Friedrichshafen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Honestly, I cant think of anything positive to say other than the fact that I'm no longer subjected to working there.

    Cons

Very poor management within the maintenance team, some managers have a dictator mentality in their role and a gross lack of leadership ability, morale is very low in support groups due to the heinous management styles exhibited with total disregard to employees personal life/work balance, 12 days on- 2 days off. overtime is "mandatory" even when there is no support needed, constant threats of disciplinary action for menial things. By far the least satisfying and worst year and 2 month experience in my 25 years in this career field. Management within the maintenance group has the inability to recognize the talent that individuals possess and bring to the table from outside sources. Some technicians are allowed to level up while others are unjustly scrutinized and not allowed to participate in the program, Participation in the preventative maintenance program is utilized as a incognito form of "punishment". Very unprofessional work environment to say the least.

    Advice to Management

Your management team, support team managers in general need some extensive training in how to manage employees, maintain good work relationships with their subordinates, improve and maintain morale, engage in open dialog with their employees that doesn't result in constant threats of disciplinary action when employees request clarification of rules, policies and directives. This facility does not exhibit the culture that is present at other ZF facilities nor does it reflect the culture that I respect and expect from a German based company.
