I worked at ZS Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone at ZS is smart which makes it an engaging work atmosphere where you will constantly improve because others are calling you up. The culture is fantastic, and the org structure is quite flat.

    Cons

Hours can be long at times and it is very pharma-focused. However, the company has prioritized industry diversification and has begun making progress towards that goal.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up.

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great culture (inclusive, principals / managers care about your professional development, great opportunities, fun outings, ownership at early stage of career)
Input in your staffing post your first 1.5 years
Ownership over work (most managers don't micro-manage)
Great reputation with most of our clients
    Limited travel

    Cons

    Staffing battles
Some selfish managers / principals (don't have your best interest in mind)
    Small bonuses (raises are average)

    Advice to Management

Be careful about who is put in the PAM roles. While the 20% of folks are awesome, 60% are good, there are 20% who demoralize junior folks, are very self-interested (lack an enterprise mindset), and do not empower their teams.
Also - compensation seems to be low compared to consulting firms we compete against in the area

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time

    Pros

AMAZING culture - particularly in San Francisco location. Everyone will tell you this: the people are truly amazing. The work is interesting, fast-paced, challenging.

    Cons

Long hours at times, not really learning any "hard skills" on the job (like programming or analytics)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the amazing work; continue to promote inclusion and transparency wherever possible.

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Smart people
    - a bit more flexibility in terms of hours/travel than traditional consulting. Some people complain about work/life balance, but I don't think it is worse than any other consulting firm.
    - decent compensation (though the 401k plan is horrible)
    - they produce high quality work and have a strong name (though it is largely confined within one industry)

    Cons

    - expectations / dynamics seem to vary dramatically depending on which partner you work with
    - working with offshore team leads to lots of late night / early morning phone calls
    - rather limited variety of work (many of us work for the same clients/brands over and over again)
    - fractional staffing - you are on between 2-5 projects at a time. It is hard to devote full thought to any given project and there is rarely down time in between initiatives

    Advice to Management

Standardize some business practices / expectations. I see wildly different expectations from PAM to PAM, and huge differences in team happiness.

    Pros

    -Work environment
    -Exposure
    -Sense of responsibility
    -Pay and perks

    Cons

    -Long working hours
    -Favouritism and nepotism
-Unqualified managers who know only one method of optimization (i.e. reduce the time size)
    -Stop micromanaging your employees

    Advice to Management

    Stop the cost cutting rant

I have been working at ZS Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people at ZS by and large really live their values in "treating people right" - not that their perfect, but they are not really tolerant of total sociopaths in leadership positions. Seriously.

    Cons

like other consulting firms, WLB can be challenging, and staffing policies which allow up to 47 hour work weeks don't help. I manage to keep it under control, but i think it's harder for associates and associate consultants to say no. Also, i get the impression that the project work varies from very interesting to mind numbingly boring... i've never done the latter, but i do hear the frustration from others

    Advice to Management

Watch for burn out and don't staff so people are always at the edge of losing their mind!
