I worked at Zellers part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you build connections with will always be remembered and cherished. Building rapport with customers and seeing regulars daily.

    Cons

Not a very organized company, hence why it inevitably was shut down. Management seemed to love power trips, which would hinder performance of employees.

    Advice to Management

Encouraging a more put together and cohesive work environment would have been beneficial. Ensuring organization with all of the partners.

    Pros

Many different locations, I was able to transfer easily from stores in several cities as I moved for school, opportunities, etc. Entry level retail position that paid above minimum wage starting position. Pretty good opportunities for students.

    Cons

Due to scheduling, unable to have a second job or other responsibilities because must have open availability even when your position doesn't require it. A strange policy to have across the board for all employees.

    Advice to Management

Store management styles varied from store to store creating a vastly different experience, some very good, some very poor. With such a large company, continuity is expected. Would be able to get more out of employees if moral could be boosted in those poorly managed locations.

    Pros

Great company to work for! Too bad they had to close. Can always try The Bay as they are still around if you want retail work.

    Cons

Company closed and this put a lot of experienced workers out of a job.
