I worked at Zillner part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the people there were very friendly and cared about your success. There was unlimited free pop and coffee which was nice if you're a caffeine addict.

    Cons

Data driven but terminated the ENTIRE analytics department. Lack of communication between departments and between superiors and staff. After the President left the company, everyone was fearful of their jobs. Lacking in quality deliverables to clients (at least in my opinion). If you want a real agency experience, go somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your staff instead of just going through the motions. Make everyone feel appreciated and heard.

I have been working at Zillner full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Yoga, snacks, drinks and casual work environment. - Equipment - Flexible environment with a good work/life balance (not life integration) - Will promote personal advancement (don't expect them to pay for it) - HR function has made significant strides since 2015 - Clients have low expectations for quality, so great environment to learn and improve.

    Cons

    - The majority of people aren't "A" team players, nor want to improve themselves. A few exceptions, but they won't stay long. If you want to surrounded and/or mentored by the best, avoid. This is a stagnant business with little to no growth. - Digital marketing is and will continue to be a major struggle at this company. They haven't adapted and may be too late to adjust to a changing business environment. ... - "Data-driven" will be emphasized as something leadership is proud of, this is an illusion. Definite disconnect between leadership and employees. Data strength lies with their clients, not with the company. - The culture has a front-of-house vs. back-of-house feel. Literally, front sits on one side while the back is on another side of the office. A lot of finger pointing occurs. Additionally, most interactions are surface-level outside of a few. Cliques run rampant. - Project management and decision making falls on Account Managers. Great for Account Managers who like to have complete control, however, be prepared for poor decision making due to lack of domain knowledge and experience (results show). - I witnessed a lot of turnover in under a year. 50+ to close to 30 over a short time span is a major red flag. - Low performers remain at the company for a long time. - Data strategy is non-existent and leadership doesn't have a direction or knowledge in the domain. - Measurement is non-existent. Don't plan for a yearly raise or review.

    Advice to Management

    - Remove the poor performers. - Refocus on finding the company's values and create incentives around those values. Great customer service is expected, not the abnormal. Time to catch-up with today's market. - Measurement strategy externally and internally is needed. Current process is going to hold you back and show lack of meeting industry standards. - Diversity? Literally everyone of another... ethnicity was removed during my tenure. Additionally, 4 out of 8 males were terminated during my time. Different perspectives and opinions should be welcomed, not terminated. - Leadership for the production side needs to be revisited. Find an expert, then build around them. Current leadership is out of depth and takes credit for subject matter experts knowledge. Quote from leadership: "I deal with strategy, I don't know what you guys actually do."

I worked at Zillner full-time for less than a year

    Pros

If you're creative and need some direct mail samples for your portfolio this is a great place to work. If you like to occasionally do yoga at lunch and enjoy a myriad of free beverages and fresh fruit this is a great place to work. If you like to work in a creepily quiet office space this is a great place to work.

    Cons

Every agency has its issues but this place has a full subscription. False promises to new hires, ZERO creative direction in-house and a general complacence about digital marketing and removing harmful, self-defeating employees that stifle the agency's growth.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice to management because in the creative department there is none.

    I worked at Zillner part-time

    Pros

    - Great Boss - Friendly Coworkers (for the most part) - Flexible Schedule - Unlimited Soda and Juice

    Cons

    - Underpaid (I worked here for almost two years part-time and received one small raise and only because I picked up more hours) - Difficult to grow with the company - Poor spending habits - 12 days PTO - Company has no identity or direction anymore - Owner and president is crazy and makes everyone fearful for their jobs

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and stick with it

I have been working at Zillner full-time

    Pros

The work/life balance was very realistic at Zillner - there was rarely a need to stay late or come in on a weekend to accomplish a project. Zillner is extremely process-oriented, which meant that it was always very easy to tell where a project was at, whose input was needed and what was left to be accomplished to get it out the door. In general, lovely people to work with.

    Cons

Zillner went through a big flux during the last six months of my time there. Upper management dissolved a whole department on top of cutting key production employees, leaving everyone wondering who would be next. Friction between the then President and the owner was extremely evident and ended in the President leaving the company. It oftentimes felt as though the company had no desire to move forward with creating... new services and ways of doing things and was a slave to its own process.

    Advice to Management

The process is nice as a way to bring order to a chaotic business, but it's difficult to bring new and creative ideas to clients when it feels like you're locked into a rigid way of doing things.

    I worked at Zillner

    Pros

Casual work environment/company culture, free snack and drinks in break room, on site yoga several times per week

    Cons

Poor communication, people do not address issues they just talk about you behind your back, over 50% turnover in 2015.

    Advice to Management

Deal with communication issues on the lower levels, not the higher levels. Don't be afraid to be direct with your employees.

I worked at Zillner part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fun co-workers. Flexible work schedule allowed. Lots of employee perks. Ability to move around to different positions within the company. This is a great place to get your start in the KC advertising market.

    Cons

Never able to successfully expand outside of the senior housing market. Three to four year cycle of hiring and layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the senior housing market - there is plenty of opportunity to be the best in this niche field. Treat the employees as good as you say you will. More competitive salaries and respect for what they've added to the company. Profit sharing for long-term associates.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Zillner full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Hmmm...free soda? They do upgrade their technology frequently & have fairly flexible time off. You might even meet some cool people there before they move onto bigger & better jobs.

    Cons

Inadequate pay, expensive benefits, forced "fun", frequent layoffs, constant change in company direction, unappreciative (absent & possibly insane) owner, boring clients, unimaginative work, oppressive management

    Advice to Management

Start respecting your employees - not just in words, in ACTIONS. Find a company direction and stick to it.

    I worked at Zillner

    Pros

Fairly relaxed atmosphere. Good location. Some really cool people to work with and occassionally a good party.

    Cons

No real way to get promoted. there are a few favourites that get all of the recognition. All of the work rolls downhill. Almost all fo the fun has been killed from this place.
