I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good hours, home life scenarios are wonderful! Good volunteering times

    Cons

Too many consultants, not enough local resources

    Advice to Management

keep looking for local hires, when the consultants leave, they take too much knowledge with them.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Not much lately. I'm actually really struggling to come up with anything.

    Cons

The bancorp continues to cut expenses through compensation and benefits. They have major projects that are nearly 10 years overdue. Their Simple, Easy and fast initiative is anything but that. Zions is complex, cumbersome and slow. They have been updating technology which as been a major concern. However, they still make poor choices. They tend to value vendors that are based in Utah, not because they are local. They...

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Code access to scripting and tools

    Cons

Poor management and no growth. Developers are pulled in many directions leading to misguided efforts.

    Advice to Management

Need to see new blood as there have been too many here for too long without other experience anywhere else.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people and environment. The culture is good and there is opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Recently the CEO made a decision and passed the buck down to lower levels of management to share the bad news. Lately I've been less impressed with the CEO as he has made some poor choices (in my opinion) to focus on expenses over employees.

    Advice to Management

Even though expense reduction is important don't forget the human aspect in your decisions.

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great partners to work with, long term employees can with tons of experience. Great pay.

    Cons

You can't get loans done through the back office, cutbacks on the retail branches hurt company morale. Extremely poor computer systems. Not a low cost leader and not faster at processing.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about getting the new systems in place and get it done. It's painful to try and find anything, and it was shocking coming over from a different bank.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation for more than a year

    Pros

Former reviews were very early in the project, long before any results were actually in hand. Their hasty (negative) conclusions were based on the churn that usually accompanies getting a very large project up and running. The Consumer Lending piece is nearing rollout. Commercial Lending to follow, with Deposits (the largest piece) bringing up the rear. There is now an excellent program and project management...

    Cons

Quality of requirements and correct implementation of solutions is getting much better, but continues to present challenges. This is a typical obstacle when dealing with an off-shore development effort on an existing platform and the project management team is taking the problem in hand to improve things.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. Successful implementation of the Consumer Lending segment will shake out the roughest parts of the entire effort and smooth the way for the subsequent elements. Keep a close eye on the quality and robustness of the solution being provided. Lessons learned from the first segment are being applied to the efforts on the subsequent efforts in a continuous improvement feedback loop.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Executive management does truly seem to care about employees and although there is focus on stock price and numbers, there is a good balance. If you like a fast pace, the opportunity to learn a lot and advance and can keep up with all of the changes, this is a great place to work. When cuts have to be made, the company has provided a lot of notice and good severance packages. Although there are politics in this company,...

    Cons

Not a good place for those who like consistency and status quo. It can be a roller coaster ride and the workloads are high. Many of the best opportunities are in Salt Lake City, not in the other markets the company is located in.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about the changes resulting from the legal consolidation. Also, remember that there are talented people outside of SLC.
